According to the Hindu tradition, Arjuna was Nara in a previous birth, with Narayana as his companion. It is believed that they continue to perform penance for the benefit of mankind. Explanation In the Hindu tradition, Arjuna performed penance to Lord Siva to gain Pasupata. Siva tested Arjuna's valor by disguising himself as a hunter. After a long fight, Arjuna realized that the hunter was Lord Shiva. Siva blessed Arjuna with the Pasupata and other celestial weapons. The idol of Ayyappa, the reigning deity, also known as Dharma Shasta, was found desecrated – the idol was broken. As the sacred chants of “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa” reverberate through the hills of Sabarimala during the annual Mandala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage, a dark chapter from 124 years ago lies buried in history — an incident that shook the very foundation of faith and belief. In the early hours of 14 June 1900, the Sabarimala Temple, nestled deep within the forests of the Western Ghats, was found gutted by fire. The idol of Ayyappa, the reigning deity, also known as Dharma Shasta, was found desecrated – the idol was broken. Unsolved mystery The government, probably wary of the communal repercussions, chose not to pursue the case further. Subsequent governments have accepted that this case remains an unsolved mystery. The Reconstruction The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) constructed a new temple. The number of pilgrims to the temple increased steadily after the reconstruction. It describes how Barbarik's responses to stimuli and questions seemed mechanical, similar to a robot. The warrior Barbarik was a grandson of Bhima, the second Pandava brother, and the son of Ghatotkacha. He was a mighty warrior who learned the art of warfare from his mother, Ahilāvati. Lord Shiva gave him three infallible arrows. The encounter In the story, Barbarik encounters Shree Krishna during the Mahabharata war. Barbarik's responses to Shree Krishna's questions and stimuli astounded him, and presented him with a moral dilemma. Since then, Barbarik is worshipped in the name of Khaatu Shyamji and has become immortal. He enjoys the same divinity as Lord Krishna. His immortal head witnessed the entire battle of Mahabharata till the end and then later disappeared into oblivion. The promise Barbarik promised his guru, Vijay Sidh Sen, that he would always fight for the weaker side in battle and not use his arrows for personal glory. Reference in Vyasa Mahabharatha Since Barbarik was a robot with artificial intelligence rather than a living human, the author omitted this detail. Past Life Barbarik was a Yaksha who got cursed by Lord Brahma Present - Reincarnation of Barbarika KhatuShyam or Khatu Shyamji or Shyam Baba is a manifestation of Barbarika, son of Ghatotkacha.
