Was I In A Cult?

By: PodcastOne
  • Summary

  • Hosted by Tyler Measom and Liz Iacuzzi, Was I In A Cult? is a documentary-style podcast showcasing individuals who have been in, and most importantly, successfully left a cult. Told first-hand by the experiencer themself, these are raw, riveting and inspirational tales of what it means to be a survivor. Using levity and info-tainment, the show humanizes the cultic experience and may leave some of our listeners asking themselves…“Wait…Was I In A Cult?” If you or someone you know has been in a cult and want to share your story, contact us at info@wasiinacult.com. We'd love to hear from you.

  • Zendik Farm PT2: “Embracing the Death Culture”
    Dec 9 2024

In the gripping conclusion to Jeanne Nolan's story, the idyllic facade of Zendik Farm finally shatters. Beneath its promises of revolution and a self-sustaining community lies a darker reality: broken families and devastating power plays. Jeanne recounts her heart-wrenching separation from her baby, the unraveling of relationships under the commune’s twisted rules, and her ultimate escape after 17 long years. Through painful truths and a hard-won sense of clarity, Jeanne forges a new life outside the cult, turning trauma into a legacy of love, family, and a thriving organic gardening business that inspires others to embrace sustainability, growth, and connection… and all in a very healthy and not-at-all culty way of course. This is a story of resilience, transformation, and the extraordinary ability to cultivate beauty from even the darkest of places.

  • Zendik Farm PT1: “Stop Bitching, Start a Revolution”
    Dec 2 2024

What happens when an idealistic teen swaps suburban comforts for a “revolutionary” arts cooperative promising harmony with the Earth, free love, and organic farming? Jeanne Nolan thought she’d found utopia at Zendik Farm—a bohemian paradise where creativity and sustainability reigned supreme. But behind the lush gardens and groovy slogans lurked manipulation, sexual politics, and a strict hierarchy led by two enigmatic leaders. In part one of this captivating two-parter, Jeanne reveals her journey from wide-eyed seeker to “Zendik warrior,” the allure of life on the fringe, and the cracks that began to form in the farm’s idyllic facade. Was Zendik Farm truly a haven, or just another cleverly veiled cult? Let’s dig into the dirt.

Featured Article: Delve into the Darker Side of Human Nature with the 15 Best Podcasts About Cults

Cults are fascinating. There’s something curiosity-inducing about stories of ordinary people who get wrapped up in groupthink that quickly veers into dangerous territory. Part of the appeal is because we think it could never happen to us, even though we suspect, deep down, that it absolutely could. These listens explore the nature of cults, the figures who lead them, and the followers who have been lured into their orbits.

Amazing Podcast

I absolutely love this podcast! My husband recommended it to me randomly cause he heard an add for it! I tried it and was hooked! I look forward to the new episodes! The stories themselves have actually helped me realize I survived a cult as well at my old church! Thank you Tyler and Lisa for doing this podcast!

My favorite new podcast. I hope to hear the stories of the hosts at some point down the road since they both mentioned they were also in cults...

Need more!

These two hosts could read the instructions for something boring like a refrigerator manual and I would still listen! Such great banter and charisma while still telling experiences and details that sometimes aren’t so pleasant. Need more episodes!

Interesting, but some things were embellished

Disclaimer I am a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Some of the things they say are doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also BYU Provo does allow shorts on campus, but BYU Idaho doesn’t allow shorts in campus. I know that doesn’t really matter, but just saying not every they said about the mainstream The Church of Jesusu Christ of Latter-day Saints. I can’t say what the TLC believe. I do know that for entertainment they embellished some of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints beliefs. The main doctrines of the Church are based upon the Bible. There is a great book called, “Biblical Roots of Mormonism.” If you want to know the real beliefs maybe go to a better source. I do enjoy listening to podcasts and books about cults.
