Heitere, satirische Texte lassen nicht direkt an Dostojewski denken. Doch als er im Jahr 1861 diese "peinliche Geschichte", schrieb, wurde unter Zar Alexander II. gerade die Leibeigenschaft abgeschafft. Es war die Zeit der großen gesellschaftlichen Umwälzungen, die den Schriftsteller zu dieser Groteske inspirierten. Um Toleranz und Humanität zu demonstrieren, erscheint der General Iwan Iljitsch Pralinski uneingeladen zur Hochzeit eines Untergebenen. Doch von da an geht alles schief, was schiefgehen kann. Friedhelm Ptok trifft exzellent den Ton dieser bissigen Gesellschaftssatire.
