Jesus – ‘God with us’ (Matthew 1:23) – came to be ‘to’ and ‘through’ us. This is a gift from God. He refreshes our soul, and then flows through us to the world around us. He gives us purpose, power, direction – every day, now and forevermore. Jesus gave people not only truth to believe, but paths to follow, and Spirit to minister. I was at a gas station sharing verse cards and booklets with people. It was a windy day but the rain was holding off… A guy that looked homeless to me went into the station, bought a cup of coffee, and came back outside and stood next to me. His name was Tim. ‘God, don’t leave us here!’ My friend, Brian, had whispered this prayer the night before. Just outside his door there had been a violent, cold-blooded fight. Many against one, kicking the young guy unconscious. Brian’s one line resonated with my soul. It expressed my own heart’s cry at many times, with many feelings of fear in this world. God looks for you. He searches for you. Jesus notices when you’re not there, and he leaves the crowd, the event, to find you. I hope God’s words and love come off these pages and stay with you, as ‘spirit and life’. ‘Moses came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush... though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! You can only see what you see. This sounds obvious, but determines everything. What you see determines where you go and what you do. Do you see a path ahead? You see it, therefore you head in that direction. You don’t see it, you go elsewhere… Do you ‘see’ value or meaning in this career? You ‘go’ in that direction. You invest, study, sacrifice, meet up with… The light in your eyes – your physical eyes – gets you out of the woods, the literal woods. And the light in your mind, in your heart, connects you to life choices and relationships.
