Cody Lankin returns home to Golden California, after his marriage and highly successful architect/builder business are both in ruins. He was betrayed by his wife and his business partner and has sworn to have nothing to do with either henceforth.

He reunites with Alison Gayle, a high school acquaintance, a loner then and now a powerhouse. He is frustrated that she is an attorney and a woman. As they get to know each other, sparks begin to fly. Cody's parents enlist his skills in restoring a long uninhabited mansion with the goal of converting it to an bed and breakfast, and upscale bookstore with a view to mystery weekends.

Alison is determined to solve the mystery or the disappearance of her father. Cody is determined to revive his career.
When bones are discovered where they should not be, things turn dangerous.
