Publisher's summary

Get to know the hilarious and sexy Carolina crew in this small-town series of hot romantic comedies. Your next addiction starts here:

  2. The Spark, Carolina Connections, Book 2 (Fiona and Mark)

The Fix

My life is a friggin' fairy tale - just not the kind any single girl would ever want to star in.

LANEY:
Like any good heroine, I have challenges to face. Getting my son to wear pants is one; dealing with my snooze-fest of a job is another. Then there's the Beast, my freeloading brother who's worn a permanent dent in the couch at my new place. And no fairytale would be complete without a smoking hot prince, of course. Too bad he's a complete ass.

My instincts scream at me to steer clear of Nate Murphy. Because, if life has taught me anything, there is no such thing as happily ever after.

NATE:
I may not be a superhero, but I do my best to come to the rescue when I'm needed. And, hey, I just moved halfway across the country after a single phone call from my mom. But being back home and taking on the responsibilities involved makes me a bit cranky at times. Unfortunately, the one time I completely lose my cool is in front of the hottest girl I've ever met. I've got my work cut out for me if I'm going to fix this. But I will fix this.

I'll be anything Laney Monroe needs me to be...superhero, a prince, or just a guy she might take a chance on.

The Spark

Mark Beckett is the most annoying, patronizing, arrogant jerk on the face of the earth. So, naturally, I can't get the damn man out of my head.

Fiona:

Like the old saying goes, I'm a jill of all trades but a master of none. What I lack in skill, however, I make up for in enthusiasm - something certain people (ahem) find irritating. But I have my reasons for living my life the way I do, for diving into one project after another and trying to make a difference. And if Mark Beckett doesn't like it, he knows where to find the door. I don't need his approval...or his panty-melting kisses.

Mark:

I enjoy the simple things in life: a job well done, a cold beer, a hot woman...you get the idea. But there's nothing simple about the mess I just found myself in. The last thing I need is a pint-sized princess sticking her nose in my business and pushing every damn one of my buttons like it's her job. But Fiona Pierce may be the only one with the tools to solve my problems--and the power to change everything.

2 fun reads

THE FIX
I loved Lainey as a mom. The concerns she had about Rocco were the worries most moms have. Worried if their child has enough friends, if the way they act is considered “normal”. But she has a kick-ass best friend in Fiona and when she finds the sweet Nate who is willing to build the “bat cave” for her son, her life starts falling in place. My only negative thoughts would be that the narrator (in my opinion) made the male voices sound to lazy. The voices came out slow and like they all either just woke up or smoked too much pot.

THE SPARK
So much fun! Mark is a trying to be a reformed man-whore who gets mixed up with his dead beat dads problems with loan sharks. The adventure between Fiona, Mark, and his brother kept me glued to the story. I could follow this couple through so many fun adventures!

Spoiler free review

I enjoyed both stores a lot. they were a lot of fun. I think I preferred the story in book two, and I definitely preferred the narrators from book 2. not that book 1 was bad, I just preferred the 2nd one. I wasn't crazy about the way Rocco came out, but I don't have issue in general with a female doing male parts. I also enjoyed in book one how many of the characters for the rest of the series are layer out. it's not too overwhelming (I admit I started listening out of order)

4.5 Hilarious & Heartfelt Stars!

~ The Fix
This is such a funny, sweet, and steamy romance! Laney is a young single mom who has worked hard to raise her adorable son, Rocco, in a good, loving home. Her brother, Gavin, lives with them also and despite his troubled past and carefree attitude, he is a good brother and uncle. Nate is Gavin's new boss and when he meets Laney, he is instantly attracted to the sweet, fiesty, sexy woman. He offers to help fix a few things around her home to spend time with her and to hopefully win her and her son over, which never is as easy as it seems. Laney doesn't want to fall for Nate no matter how charming, kind and handy he is. But their fiery attraction is too hard to deny. What I loved most about this romance was how genuine the situations where. Stewart did a great job making all the interactions, including sibling disagreements, feel real and honest. I also loved the crazy sayings and comments that Laney said. This was the perfect blend of humor, heart and steam. There were so many laugh out loud moments, moments that made me swoon, and some that made my heart race.
Narrator, Alice Wander did a great job bringing these characters and story to life. I loved her accents, and her expressiveness. She really helped to make this story even more fun and endearing. I can't wait to listen to more from both Stewart and Wander!

~ The Spark
I absolutely loved this second book in the Carolina Connections series! We first met both Fiona and Mark in the first book, and I could not wait for this feisty couple! Mark tried some of his charming moves on Fiona, but she was not going to fall for this arrogant player. But when Mark needed help with his mom, Fiona was the first to the rescue. This story was a huge surprise to me. I loved the humor, heart and steam in the first book, and this one definitely had all of that! But this one really moved me. Fiona has a secret past she keeps from her friends, never letting on the pain she is feeling. She is always perky, sassy, but the first to offer help and comes up with the craziest ideas, I really loved her! Mark has his own past that caused him to build his walls against love. They make the perfect pair with Mark going along with her crazy ideas, but loving it the whole time. This enemies to lovers story was so hilarious, but it had me in tears at times as well.
Amanda Stribling, and David Black nailed these wonderful characters so perfectly. They easily brought out all of the complex emotions that Fiona and Mark felt, from sassy to vulnerable, heartbreak to passion, and everything in between. I really enjoyed both their performances and thought they made this hilarious, exciting, and steamy romance even better!

Carolina Connections

The Fix
A single mom with a brothers boss theme leads to a perfect book. This book has it all. You have drama, heat, comedy and sassiness all mixed together. I loved everything about this book and the epilogue gives us a peek of what’s to come and it sounds great!
The Spark
This book is even better than the first! These action and drama had me hooked. And these two with their back and forth is so funny you will be chuckling while listening. Once it gets serious, I was so heartbroken and aggravated I wanted to throw something. So many emotions are pulled out in this book that you are left happy and excited to start the next.

Oh my Nate is swoon worthy!

I really enjoyed this story. It was light and funny. It made me I doubt there is a anyone, let alone a single mom like Laney who could resist Nate. I’m new to this author and I love her! I’ll definitely read more from her. I didn’t love the narrator. She couldn’t do a male voice that didn’t sound like a total douche, but the story was great!

A must read if you need some laugh and love

THE FIX

Oh did I enjoy this one! It was funny, the characters were interesting, it was a bit sexy and the narrator was perfect. 6 hours well spent.

I seriously was smiling the whole time I was listening to this one--just because laughing out loud at work for apparently no reason would have been weird. Not much happens, to be true, and the tiny conflict in the relationship is quickly resolved, but getting inside Laney’s and Nate’s head was a fun ride. And the people around them are equally quirky and charming.

The story isn’t anything original. You get your insta-love with a bit of lust thrown in. There isn’t any reason really why Laney and Nate shouldn’t be together, but still it’s kind of a slow burn with just enough sexual tension to keep you interested.

Some interesting and important points are touched upon: what a new relationship and the possibility of its ending entails for the mother of a young child, what happens when you’re forced to give up your dream, what family means. But it’s never heavy, so don’t be afraid of drama--you won’t find it here.

Definitely a must read if you need some laugh and love!

THE SPARK

If I liked The fix, I LOVED The spark. First, because this time, it’s read by not one but two narrators, so you get the dual point of view, and they’re both excellent. Second, because we get a little more drama and tension in this one. You actually fear for the characters not to end up together, since they have real problems. And finally, because you meet again with the characters from The fix--which is a big plus.

Fiona is a fake airhead, with an enormous heart and titanium balls. She’s fun and sweet, and you can’t help but fall for her. Mark is the usual playboy, but with family problems that Fiona will help him with... when they’ll stop bickering. The spark is a good enemies-to-lovers story. The way their feelings evolve is actually believable, it’s not just lust. And I enjoyed seeing Mark showing his vulnerable side.

Like The fix, The spark is funny and sweet and the right amount of sexy. And the bit of action and suspense thrown in, it is much better than the first installment.

I’ll probably try to read or listen to the next book, because I can’t wait to read about Mark’s brother.

Romance and Laughs

These were the first books I have read/listened by Sylvie Stewart and I LOVED them. The relationship between Nate and Lanie, as well as, Mark and Fiona were so natural I didn't want to stop listening. I cannot wait to read the next installment.
