Publisher's summary

"Paranormal fans looking for their next taste of vampire romance won't want to miss this exciting, sensual story of old world lore and modern day mayhem...a scorching introduction to the Dark Warrior Alliance." (RT Book Reviews)

Along the edges of darkness, a war of attrition rages between the demon plane and the Tehrex Realm. Dark Warriors alone stand between humans and the evil that seeks to destroy them. Zander Tarakesh, the sexy as sin vampire king, leads the battle.

Zander is battle-hardened and accustomed to command, yet wrestles to regain control when his Fated Mate is propelled into his world, bombarding him with unfamiliar emotions. His life depends on him uniting with Elsie, the slip of a mortal, who unknowingly protects a vital piece of his soul. Eradicating the demons will be an easier task than combating her sense of guilt and betrayal to gain her acceptance, loyalty, and, ultimately, her love. And, he must do this before she plunges a stake in his heart. One thing is certain: The flames of passion ignite a fire in their shared souls....

Elsie Hayes’ life is shattered after the vicious murder of her husband. Intent on revenge, she spends her evenings killing creatures others only see in nightmares. A supernatural event teleports Elsie into a world filled with violence, magic, and unexpected lust and love when she is thrust from widow to Fated Mate of the enigmatic vampire king. Can she lower the protective shield around her heart, giving herself to a vampire whose power is the very reason her life was changed forever?

Scottish brogue

Well I do love me a bit of Scottish brogue. And I get that in this book. Elsie has lost what she thought of as the love of her life. But over 12 months after his death the police still have no answers she is withering away but has also joined a group to hunt vampires. On a chance encounter Zander is drawn to Elsie and has his Dark Warriors chase her down and then to further investigate her husbands case. It helps when he has men in the police force. Anyway the story moves on things happen that seem a little strange like Orlando and Santi basically moving into apartment but hey I guess anything is possible. It does become more plausible as the story moves on though.
Zander and Elsie’s story move along at a good pace there is plenty of twists and turns through the story and the pair almost don’t get to have a happily ever after. I love how the story incorporates other realms also and how most of the humans don’t know of the supernatural.
I was drawn into the story and didn’t want to stop. Looking forward to more of this series.

Delightful Diversion

Took a little while to get into at the start, but proved worthwhile! A nice blending of reality and fantasy lures you in and makes you wonder-what if...? Once I was able keep pace with the storyline I relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Starting book 2 momentarily!

Mixed feelings

This is really a 3.75 stars because there is just to much strange dialogue at times and the way the MC acts is not necessary as someone who has a bit of common sense. Example, the new detective to your husbands case has shown up and is having a fun time at your place and now he has moved in and you treat him like he is your brother from another mother? Many scenes like that came up. This honestly could have been reduced in certain areas and would have improved the story a bit.

Dreamy warriors

I loved this book! It reminds me so much of Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series. It has the same feel. I’ve looked the world over for that. So I’ll be reading all of this series. Elsie lost her husband, the love of her life years ago but is still grieving. He was killed by vampires. Every night she goes out and kills vamps to avenge his death. She is only human but she can kick some real butt. When warrior Zander meets her, he knows it’s his mate. But can he ever get close enough to convince her? There seems no way he can even tell her he’s a vampire. She hates them. But there’s a difference in his kind and the demon ones who killed her husband. Zander is also the king of vampires. He has a lot of work in store for him if he is going to pull this off.

I loved the characters. But I do have to say Elsie aggravated me just a little bit for a short time. She was on and on about her husband in her mind. Which I would be too. I think it was just the fact this whole mate thing and relationship built up the correct way and wasn’t insta love on her part. But I was wanting them to get it on already lol. She had a crazy chemistry with Zander from the first but felt she was betraying her husband. She could also feel the energy of others around her. She would dream about Zander and they seemed so real. He could visit her in her dreams at night. I liked how that part was written.

The narrator for the audiobook was really good. Sometimes it was hard to tell the male voices apart. But I wouldn’t mind listening to her again.

narrator made listening difficult

the story was good but narrator didn't differentiate voices of the different characters so it was difficult to follow and relate to the characters. also narrator spoke in rather staccato pedantic phrases so the cadence and flow of the story was lacking.

Worst book I have every purchased

The narration is monotone and it almost is mocking the terrible sexist story. There is no development of the characters. The book is an excuse to use the words hot pussy and hard tool ad nauseam.
