About this listen
We all dream of the forbidden, but some of us make those dreams come true....With the same mystery, menace, and intensity as her Vampire books, Anne Rice's
Exit to Eden explores the forbidden by taking us to The Club, a vacation paradise where no aspect of sexual pleasure is taboo. Just as The Story of O shocked the '60s by speaking aloud about what had only been whispered, Exit to Eden gives voice to the sexual secrets of the '80s.

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Story
In a sweeping saga of music and vengeance, the acclaimed author of The Vampire Chronicles draws listeners into 18th-century Italy, bringing to life the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice, the wild frivolity of Naples, and the magnetic terror of its shadow, Vesuvius. This is the story of the castrati, the exquisite and otherworldly sopranos whose graceful bodies and glorious voices win the adulation of royal courts and grand opera houses throughout Europe. These men are revered as idols - and, at the same time, scorned for all they are not.

Story
To the outside world, they seem to have it all. Cassie Barrett, a renowned anthropologist, and Alex Rivers, one of Hollywood's hottest actors, met on the set of a motion picture in Africa. They shared childhood tales, toasted the future, and declared their love in a fairy-tale wedding. But when they return to California, something alters the picture of their perfect marriage. A frightening pattern is taking shape - a cycle of hurt, denial, and promises, thinly veiled by glamour.

Such a shame they removed so much of this book. Important scenes were removed that were key to making this story flow, of course Gillian Anderson did a fantastic job, but I wish she was able to read the whole book. Not a extremely shorten version.

Abridged - leaves out all the good stuff
This audio book is super abridged. Shame on them for charging a whole credit. It leaves out all the good stuff and turns the main female character into a one dimensional basket case with no character development. This version also turns a super erotic novel into a short story rated PG.
I was going to return it, but it was really well done so I won’t. The performers were great and if they were going to turn this into a main stream movie, this is the very scaled down story they would probably use.
