Managing Director of Communication Development Associates, Inc. in Woodland Hills, California. He was one of the firm's founders, which was constituted in 1976 and has since served as counsel to senior management on various issues related to human communication. Allen's external responsibilities include on-site delivery of seminars and individualized coaching. Internally, he serves on the long-term planning committee and leads the research and development group. Allen completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Communication at West Virginia University. During the Vietnam War era, he served in the U.S. Navy on destroyers and cruisers. Following his service, he received his Ph.D. in Communication Studies from The Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California. His research interests were and remain persuasion and influence, interpersonal attraction, and credibility, and he has several published studies on those topics. Communication Development Associates' clients have included the Jet Propulsion Lab, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, geophysicists at the world's leading energy companies, research and development leaders in pharmaceuticals, IT professionals in a wide variety of settings, and legal scholars and practicing attorneys at several world-wide law firms. Allen's book, So Smart But...: How Intelligent People Lose Credibility And How They Can Get It Back (Wiley, 2007) has been described as "required reading for all leaders who want to protect and extend the most valuable personal asset they have." His second book is set to be released on April 15th called "The Highflier Handbook, How To Be Seen And Become A Leader At Work." Allen is married to Carol Weiner and has a thirty-eight-year-old son. Matt is a senior officer with U.S. Megafire Response. His work involves ending the crisis created by megafires that have economic, health, and social impacts. He works with communications and governments to secure the resources necessary to address the consequences of megafires. In 2011, Allen received the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni award given by West Virginia University where he received his BA and MA.
