Born and raised in Salt Lake, Ann also spent big blocks of time as a child in Europe where her father was visiting professor of mathematics. She majored in Archaeology/Anthropology of the Middle East at the University of Utah. She spent a summer in Israel excavating the biblical city of Beersheva, traveling throughout the Holy Land and living in the old city of Jerusalem for a month. She has studied Hebrew, Arabic, Egyptian hieroglyphs and ancient Akkadian as well as English, French and German. She has traveled across all of North Africa and spent time in Turkey, Syria and Jordan. She lives in an old farm house on an acre and a half near Salt Lake City with a varying number of chickens. She is the author of twenty books, fiction and nonfiction, historical novels and historical fantasies. Her trilogy set in sixteenth-century Turkey spent over a year on the Turkish bestseller list. Her trilogy about the Valkyrie is undergoing a treatment for a television series. She has lost track of how many plays she’s had produced, but JIHAD, produced in New York City in both 1996 and 2000, won The Off-Off Broadway Review's best new play of the year. It was also produced for an international women’s theatre for peace conference in Bogota, Colombia. THE LAMENTABLE TRAGEDY OF SIR THOMAS MORE was produced by the Utah Shakespearean Festival the year they won the Tony. Gardening, cooking and folkdancing are her hobbies. She owns a bookshop at the Arizona Renaissance Festival, is on the board of the Historical Novel Society North American Conference. She has held jobs in a library, with the census, in a deli, in a junior high and as a swimming instructor. My website is www.annchamberlin.com.
