Barbara Mitchell is passionate about helping organizations attract, hire, engage, and retain the best possible talent available. That's why she began consulting and founded The Mitchell Group, a human resources and organizational development practice. She consults with clients on people issues and consults with individuals who want to make a career change, After gaining a solid business foundation working in finance, market research, and operations for Sears and American Hospital Supply Corporation, she started her career in human resources. Much of her HR career was spent with Marriott International. She has served as president if several HR organizations including the Employment Management Association--a special interest group of SHRM and as a board member of The National Presbyterian Church, the Northern Virginia Habitat for Humanity affiliate and The Loudoun County Literacy Council. She also serves as a video docent at The Smithsonian American art Museum. Barbara is a graduate of North Park University, Chicago, Il with a degree in history and political science and has taken graduate level courses at UCLA, The University of Denver, and Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. She lives and writes in Washington, DC. She is the coauthor of The Decisive Manager, They Did What?. The Big Book of HR, The Conflict Resolution Phrasebook, The Essential Conflict Management Handbook, and The Essential HR Handbook.
