Christopher R. Martin is professor of digital journalism at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His most recent book is the critically acclaimed No Longer Newsworthy: How the Mainstream Media Abandoned the Working Class (Cornell University Press, 2019), winner of the 2020 C.L.R. James Award from the Working Class Studies Association. His research has been published in journals including Journalism Studies, Journal of Communication Inquiry, Communication Research, Labor Research Journal, Perspectives on Politics, Popular Music and Society, Journal of Communication, and he has written pieces for Nieman Reports, ILR Review, Z magazine, Huff Post, Editor & Publisher, and Jacobin. With Richard Campbell and Bettina Fabos, he is co-author of Media and Culture: An Introduction to Mass Communication, and Media Essentials (both Bedford/St. Martin's), and author of an award-winning book on how labor unions are covered in the news media, Framed! Labor and the Corporate Media (Cornell University Press, 2004). Martin previously taught at Miami University (Ohio), and was a visiting professor at Universitat Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt University) in Austria. He is a recipient of the State of Iowa's Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence, the College of Humanities and Fine Arts Faculty Excellence Award, and the Veridian Community Engagement Award. Martin holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, an MA from Emerson College, and a BA from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
