Background:
Christopher Ross grew up in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where he loved to "walk in the woods and ruminate." After graduating from Denison University with an English degree, he lived in Center City Philadelphia for several years; "another cradle of American history that provided a sharper edge" for his imagination.
He received his M.A. from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College. While studying in Santa Fe and Vermont, he focused on Shakespeare's Roman plays, modern American fiction, the Romantic poets, play writing, Henrik Ibsen, and modern American drama. His last two summer course loads took place at University of Oxford, where he spent much time in Freud's Cafe analyzing Joyce and the modern British poets.
He received two grants from the N.E.H.; one to study the poetry of Petrarch at University of Avignon in France, and secondly, to study the history of American song at University of Pittsburgh. He was also the recipient of a scholarship from The English Speaking Union to study the modern British writers at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
A high school English teacher for fifteen years, Ross is now devoting his time to writing his next American history infused book, which employs the Civil War as its backdrop.
