Famed Author of On Writing Well, William Zinsser said it best: “Writing is hard work. A clear sentence is no accident. Very few sentences come out right the first time, or even the third time. Remember this in moments of despair. If you find that writing is hard, it’s because it is hard.” To support the aspiring writer, the weary writer, and the totally discouraged writer - the nine women of Living Write Texas will release: The Write Calling: Encouragement for the Writer’s Heart. These gals know from experience the ups and downs of life at the keyboards. Collectively we have written for a total of 128 years. Among our endeavors: 21 books, hundreds of blog posts, newsletters, magazine and newspaper articles, stage plays, and even a songwriter of 30 years. Our fair share of grins and grief were included in the process. Our goal for this book is simple: to support Christian writers at all levels to actively pursue the mission they believe God calls them to fulfill. To encourage, educate, and engage aspiring authors in the process of transferring the words they carry in their heart to the written page. From Elk Lake Publishing. Deb's books include topic on marriage and communication. "Don't Go to Bed Angry - Stay Up and Fight" (Abingdon Press) was awarded the 2017 Selah Award for best non-fiction. Written with her husband of 40 years, Ron. "We discovered we were very qualified to write this book. We've been disagreeing for years!" The book's precept is simple: conflict is not the real problem; it's how we handle the conflict that becomes the problem. It can be very negative, damaging. OR it can be the process that leads to discovery, breeding openness and authentic intimacy. Kregel Publications released Deb's first book, entitled Related by Chance, Family by Choice, in November of 2013. It is the story of two women who love the same man: mothers and the girls who marry their sons. Mother-in-law / daughter-in-law relationships can be good. We just have to understand our roles and set our hearts on doing things God's way. The book provides practical tools and guidelines to make these relationships as good and God honoring as they can possibly be. Deb's second book - I Choose You Today: 31 Choices to Make Love Last, published by Abingdon Press and winner of the 2016 Golden Scrolls Silver Award, released in January 2015. How would your marriage change if you and your husband made the spoken declaration, "I choose you" every day? Even when "for better or worse is disappointing? The book offers inspirational stories, conventional wisdom and thought-provoking questions to explore your choices and commitment to each other . . . every day of your marriage. Bumper Sticker Be-Attitudes is a quick read devotional from Elk Lake Publishers, released in late 2019. Each chapter's title comes from a real-life bumper sticker saying. Deb has collected more than 300 and discovered many were ripe for a humor-tinged book with a generous chunk of Jesus along for the ride.
