Patrick Fitzgerald is a GP in North West England. After working with co-author Sarah Rayner on her books Making Friends with the Menopause and Making Friends with Depression, he decided he wanted to write something based on his experiences working in palliative care. Making Peace with the End of Life is his new book, providing supportive information, guidance and insights into health and social care in the UK for those living with a life-shortening illness. Patrick was born in Switzerland, grew up in Cheshire, and studied Medicine in London. He qualified in 1986, only to leave medical practice in 1988 for a career in music. He returned to retrain as a GP in 2004, and now has MRCGP and a Diploma in Palliative Medicine. He has worked as a palliative care doctor in hospices, hospital and in the community, as well as for Macmillan Cancer Care as a GP education facilitator.
