Richard Griffith grew up in a college town, Lexington, Virginia, where his Father worked as a college professor. So he took education seriously. He studied physics in college, electrical engineering in graduate school earning a doctorate, and then for good measure went to medical school. Along the way he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. Coming out of medical school he used his engineering background to contribute to neurosurgical research in brain trauma for a couple years before doing a residency in anesthesiology. He practiced medicine both in private practice and as a faculty member at the Albany Medical Center in New York State. He also worked in the medical device industry as the Worldwide Hypodermic Medical Director for Becton Dickinson and Company for a decade. Now retired in the beautiful state of Vermont he continues an interest in getting young people involved in health care and in promoting greater patient safety during medical treatments. The new book Medical Investigation 301 Perspicacity adds a perspective useful to adult students approaching a career in healthcare. Getting overwhelmed by the massive flow of information constitutes a danger for students. An ability to look beyond the details and grasp a visual understanding of the causation marks this novel perspective. The book attacks this concept succinctly. Examples help the student insist on a deeper understanding from their studies.
