My co-author S. James McLaughlin and I wrote The WVU Coed Murders: Who Killed Mared and Karen?, to be published by The History Press in August, 2021. A 9-episode podcast about the case, called Mared & Karen (www.coedmurders.com), was produced by McLaughlin and J. Kendall Perkinson at Kromatic Media. The podcast has had 1M+ listens to date. In the last 30 years, I edited over 60 published books, mostly nonfiction, and my writing has appeared in a host of others. My first novel won awards, the thriller Full Bone Moon, and I placed first nationally for an early account of investigating the coed murders. In 2014, I and Daleen Berry wrote The Savage Murder of Skylar Neese (#12 on the New York Times bestselling list), and we followed quickly with the more comprehensive Pretty Little Killers. Those books led to appearances on Dateline, 20/20, and other shows. Along the way, I’ve written articles for many literary/commercial magazines, and was the only person in state history awarded prestigious writing fellowships in all three prose categories: fiction, nonfiction, and memoir.
