American author and poet, J. Anton Davis, is a husband, father, attorney, and writer. Born and raised in the southern United States, he lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife, Alexandra, and sons, James and Liam. Though Davis has written poetry and fiction privately for 20 years, he launched his website, JAntonPoetry.com, in 2019 to begin sharing his writing publicly. His poems focus on the deep meaning hidden within the seemingly insignificant and mundane. Davis's debut collection of poems, Love is: A former magistrate's poetic reflections on love and marriage in a county courthouse, was inspired by the nearly 6,000 civil wedding ceremonies he performed from 2013 to 2019 while he served as a North Carolina Magistrate Judge. Note: in the United States, a magistrate judge serves often as the initial point of judicial review in our court systems, most notably in determining probable cause for criminal search warrants and criminal arrest warrants. Magistrate judges also perform civil wedding ceremonies and preside over various criminal and civil courtrooms, though the functions of their office can vary in each state in America. Davis's second book, Oak City Tales, is the fictional story of Emory Alexander, a self-proclaimed scientist seeking success and acceptance in early 20th-century Raleigh, North Carolina, through the development of countless magical potions, each infused with the dust of his enchanted stone. While Emory is certain his scientific breakthroughs will change the world for the better, not all residents of the capital city are so sure. Using downtown Raleigh as the testing site for each newly concocted potion, Emory quickly sends the calm southern city into chaos. When Emory is discovered as the mastermind behind the city's woes, a manhunt ensues that forces him to decide just how far he will go to prove that his potions not only work, but deserve the attention of the entire world. Beyond writing poetry and fiction, Davis enjoys exploring local walking trails, playing soccer (the world's football!), and spending time with family and friends.
