I believe it was watching Star Wars when I was 6 or 7 that did it for me. The story of a young hero rising to save others inspired me to think of my own characters that would fight against the evil. Whether it was watching movies, adventuring around my neighborhood or creating a story with my toys, I was constantly feeding and using my imagination. I read the basics through out elementary school (Wrinkle in Time, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe), but was not blown away by these stories. It wasn't until i checked out Cujo in 7th grade, followed by some assigned reading of the Hobbit that I discovered some great tales on the pages of a books. To be honest, I did not take writing seriously. I pursued teaching when going to college and continued to work with children when I set forth onto the world. The problem was that I still had an active imagination and would dwell upon stories I thought about. It wasn't until after college that I would make serous attempts to creating those stories. Shortly after I married, I sat down one morning and began typing a story. It was fun and relieving to get it out there on something. That was nearly ten years ago and ever since then, I would try to spend an hour or two in the morning before work or at a coffee shop writing, outlining or working on something towards one of my story ideas. Given, there were some long breaks during this, but i managed to write two rough drafts to hopefully be crafted into novels. Last August, in our transition to moving to Spokane, my wife gave me some time off from working to write. I worked on blogging and created a website for me to share this journey. This last year, I have written a few thoughts down in blogs and produced a few shorter stories. With some encouragement from a friend, I have taken steps to get my work out there for others to enjoy and I hope to bring much more. I have lost count and maybe forgotten about a few ideas, but I have over ten stories to share. Some of these would be a multiple book series and some would be short stories. My writing covers over the fantasy and horror realm. I am not young but I have plenty of time to do what I enjoy and have taken steps to bring my smaller stories to publication with hopes of my novels to follow.
