James Lowen is an multiple award-winning nature and travel writer, who has written 10 books... with more on the way. WINNER, Travel Guide Book of 2016 (A Summer of British Wildlife) WINNER, Adele Evans Award for Best Guidebook of 2018 (52 European Wildlife Weekends) LONGLISTED, Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing, 2022 (Much Ado About Mothing) James has been immersed in all aspects of natural history since he was able to walk. He has since moulted into a fully fledged writer, editor, guide, lecturer and photographer. James's speciality is bringing nature to life for the non-specialist. Several years leading wildlife tours in South America and Antarctica resulted in James writing two books: PANTANAL WILDLIFE (published by Bradt Travel Guides) and ANTARCTIC WILDLIFE (Princeton WILDGuides). Upon his return to the UK, James had an irrepressible desire to renew his relationship with British nature. The result was James's next three books: 52 WILDLIFE WEEKENDS (Bradt Travel Guides), A SUMMER OF BRITISH WILDLIFE (Bradt Travel Guides; winner, Travel Guide Book of the Year at the 2016 Travel Media Awards), and RSPB SPOTLIGHT: BADGERS (Bloomsbury). In 2018, he had four books published: 52 EUROPEAN WILDLIFE WEEKENDS (Bradt Travel Guides; winner, Adele Evans Award for Best Guidebook of 2018), RSPB SPOTLIGHT: HEDGEHOGS (Bloomsbury), BIRDS OF FRANCE (Bloomsbury) and THE BUTTERFLY PAVILION (Carlton Books). In 2019, his books BIRDS OF SPAIN (Bloomsbury) and YEAR-ROUND WALKS: NORFOLK (Countryside Books) will be published. James writes regularly for magazines such as Nature's Home, BBC Wildlife, The Countryman and Bird Watching. He has written for The Telegraph, The Guardian, Wanderlust and National Geographic Traveler. In 2016, he guested on BBC Springwatch Unsprung and BBC Countryfile. An expert on South American wildlife, James edits the magazine Neotropical Birding. He also edits travel books for Bradt Travel Guides. James's photography is represented by FLPA Images and by Alamy.
