I grew up in England, emigrated to Canada then USA. I joke that I speak 3 languages: British, Canadian and American English. The dreaded ‘composition’ I wrote every 2 weeks in middle school made me dig into my imagination. My first prize for writing was for 'My Nature Diary', a summer vacation project when I was 13. The British education system tried to funnel academic students into either the sciences or the arts. I refused to be funneled. I was good at everything (except Math) which made it difficult to choose a University or field of study. Fortunately, I found Keele University that allowed me to take a double honors degree in Biology and Psychology. I became a Biology teacher in Canada. After raising children. I worked with a famous naturalist - Gerald Durrell - my childhood hero. He wrote 'My Family And Other Animals', and ran a zoo for endangered species on the island of Jersey. He was brilliant, but destroyed himself with alcohol. As a result of that experience, I retrained as a psychologist specializing in addiction, PTSD and trauma, among other things. I wanted to help people. Writing helped me use my mind to deal with serious issues in fiction. Themes from my life and psychology practice surface in my writing. My first published novel 'Ripple Effect - Because Of The War', won First Prize at the Royal Palm Literary Awards in Florida. When I am not writing, I spend time laughing with my husband, walking my miniature schnauzer, digging in the garden or playing Mahjongg.
