Joanna Czechowska's parents met at a dance held above the Kardomah Cafe in Derby's Cornmarket during the Second World War. Her father was a young Polish RAF pilot, her mother a Derby schoolgirl. Joanna read history at University College London and worked in the magazine industry. Her first novel, The Black Madonna of Derby, was originally published in Polish under the title Goodbye Polsko. This novel concerns three generations of a Polish immigrant family living in Derby in the 1960s and 1970s. It was longlisted for the International Rubery Book Award 2011. The sequel, Sweetest Enemy, which continues the story of the Baran family into the Eighties and Nineties, is now available. Any feedback is happily received, so email info@jczechowska.com
