Karim immigrated from Damascus, Syria to the United States in 1984 at the age of 18. In 2020, Penguin Random House is publishing his children’s book, Cat Man of Aleppo. Cactus Pear, his novel with the Deborah Harris Literary Agency, is about a Muslim boy in love with a Christian girl amid of the Syrian civil war. His blog, Arab in Alabama, is featured on the Huffington Post. Karim's work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, National Geographic Traveler, People, Time, Aramco World Magazine, Southern Living, Alabama News Center, Birmingham News, al.com, B-Metro, and Birmingham Magazine. He has written an essay for Alabama Christmas alongside those by Helen Keller and Truman Capote. He has published three books. The Beauty Box, Shelter from the Storm, and Home Sweet Home Alabama.
