Keith A. Mayes is a historian and an Associate Professor of African American & African Studies at the University of Minnesota, and an affiliate faculty in sociocultural studies in education in the College of Education & Human Development. His work examines the history of race and racialization in the postwar period, with special attention to social movements and the politics of black self-determination. He is the author of The Unteachables: Disability Rights and the Invention of Black Special Education and Kwanzaa: Black Power and the Making of the African American Holiday Tradition.
