Hi there, I'm Kelly LaPlante, a multidisciplinary designer, writer and speaker—and author of the new book Black Sheep Blueprints! Once upon a time, a million years ago (as my grandmother used to say) I was lucky enough to get be a pioneer in the sustainable design movement. In 2008, I authored the coffee table book Écologique: The Style of Sustainable Design (I think there are still a few copies of that roaming around in the recesses of Amazon!). I was also the founder and editorial director of Standard Magazine and a contributing writer at Houzz. My design work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Sunset, The New York Times, and Interior Design Magazine— and my client roster includes a motley crew of innovative brands and quirky celebs. I grew up in the SF Bay Area and have lived as an adult in San Francisco, Venice Beach, Austin and (very briefly) Amsterdam. Shortly after completing Black Sheep Blueprints, I moved to Salt Lake City with my son, Stas, so we could be closer to our family. I bought a mixed-use property where we get to live, work, design, play, and dream all in one space (and only have to walk two doors down for excellent coffee). The next life design unfolds...
