Kimberly Olson Fakih's debut novel is Little Miseries, released in January 2023. Kirkus Reviews, in a prepublication review, wrote: "[T]he book’s main throughline shows how catastrophic the secret world of grown-ups can truly be on the delicate web that is a family. Fakih’s book, her first for adults, will appeal to anyone who looks back on their own childhood with a mixture of nostalgia and horror...it shows Fakih as a gifted chronicler of children's helplessness and familial angst." Publishers Weekly noted that the book is a "sharp depiction of a Midwestern girl’s coming-of-age." In addition to writing for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Library Journal, and School Library Journal, Fakih has previously written books for young readers, including High on the Hog, Grandpa Putter and Granny Hoe, Off the Clock, and The Literature of Delight. Relentless curiosity or career ADHD has steered her from New York's publishing corridors where she has worked as an editor, reviewer, and writer, all the way to Silicon Valley to start up a parenting site. Her family also founded Podunk, the beloved East Village tea room, which the New York Times called "ephemeral" and Frances McDormand named as her favorite place in New York. Although Podunk lives now in the mists of memory, Kimberly still drinks tea daily at one of its tables while plotting her next book or perhaps her next trip to London.
