I have a maxim that a book isn't a book until the reader reads it, so thanks to all those who have done so. If you'd like to leave an honest review as well, I'd be most grateful. It helps other readers find my books. A review can be as long or as short as you like. A few words is fine. I write Scottish historical fiction, non-fiction and family sagas. They are all works of imagination and research, with inspiration coming from my family and upbringing. I grew up in Glasgow and Clydebank, the youngest of four children. My mother always used to say I talked quickly because that was the only way I could ever get a word in edgeways! My father was a railwayman, who worked his way up from shunter to stationmaster. We lived in the station house, right next to the railway, and it was a great place for people-watching. We had a big garden and, like many railwaymen, my father was a keen gardener, growing lots of vegetables and some lovely old-fashioned flowers, like marguerites and red hot pokers. I thought it was quite normal for a house to shake - as the through trains rattled past - and even now prefer to be somewhere I can hear the sounds of trains. Both my parents were great storytellers, as were our uncles and aunts. It was great training for a writer. I studied German and Spanish and spent several years working as a Blue Badge Scottish Tourist Guide, showing mainly German and German-speaking visitors around Scotland and the North of Scotland. That was another great way to hone my own storytelling skills. I love hearing from my readers and you can connect with me via my website and newsletter or on Twitter at CraigMaggie and Facebook at MaggieCraigAuthor.
