Michael D. Hattem is a historian of early America specializing in the American Revolution and historical memory. He earned his PhD in History from Yale University and has taught at Knox College and Lang College at The New School. He has authored two books and many academic articles and online essays. His work has been covered by such mainstream media outlets as the New York Times and TIME Magazine. His research has been supported by the American Philosophical Society, Massachusetts Historical Society, New-York Historical Society, and Mount Vernon. He has consulted on numerous public history projects, produced "The JuntoCast," the first podcast devoted to early American history, appeared in a television documentary about the American Revolution, curated a rare books exhibition for the New-York Historical Society, and identified, authenticated, and wrote catalogue essays for rare historical documents sold at auction.
