In 2010, Michael Feuer launched Max-Wellness, a new retail chain store and internet health and wellness concept featuring products for “head to toe” care. In this unique retail environment, Max-Wellness provides consumers with “Answers for Healthy Living™ focused on enhancing life, preventing illness and treating health issues. Mr. Feuer now spends the majority of his time rolling out plans to translate this new concept into another national speciality business. Mr. Feuer Co-founded and was former Chairman and CEO of the office products superstore chain OfficeMax. He sold OfficeMax in December 2003 for $1.5 billion to Boise Cascade Corporation. OfficeMax opened its first store in suburban Cleveland in the summer of 1988 with $20,000 of Mr. Feuer’s own money, combined with investments by a small group of other investors. During the ensuing 16 years, OfficeMax grew to an international retail powerhouse with revenues of approximately $5 billion, almost 1,000 locations, a major internet/catalog business unit, and direct sales force throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, and in Asia and South America. Immediately after leaving OfficeMax Mr. Feuer formed Max-Ventures a venture capital/consulting firm focusing on specialty retailing. Max-Ventures works with emerging growth companies and new retail concepts as well as mid-sized retailers and businesses providing services to retailers. Prior to founding OfficeMax, Mr. Feuer spent 15 years at Jo-Ann Fabrics, a publicly held, New York Stock Exchange listed company with over 1,000 stores throughout the country. When he left Jo-Ann to create OfficeMax, he was the craft and fabric retailer’s Senior Vice President and a member of its Executive Management Committee. Mr. Feuer has received numerous awards for his business achievements during his career, including, while at OfficeMax, being named Discount Store News, Specialty Discounter of the Year, recognizing Mr. Feuer for leading OfficeMax to become one of only four companies in the United States ever to reach $3 billion in sales in less than nine years. In July 2010, Max-Wellness was named the "New Brand to Watch" by BRANDWEEK magazine. A frequent guest lecturer at leading universities and for organizations throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Feuer has authored numerous articles and writes a monthly column "Tips from the Top" in SmartBusiness Magazine published in 19 major markets across the country and posted on the Web at: http://www.sbnonline.com/. Mr. Feuer’s award-winning column focuses on building and operating entrepreneur-driven organizations. The Benevolent Dictator, a book by Mr. Feuer chronicling his step by step strategy to build business and create wealth, will be published by John Wiley & Sons in late Spring 2011. Mr. Feuer also serves on the Boards of several leading companies including a privately held retail chain and an investing banking firm. In the philanthropic and academic sector, Mr. Feuer is a member of numerous Boards of Directors, including University Hospitals Case Medical Centers of Cleveland, where he serves on a number of committees including Finance and Information Technology. He is also founding Chairman of the National Leadership Council for the Hospital’s top-ranked Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. In July, he was named to the Board of Directors of NCH Healthcare Systems of Naples, Florida. Mr. Feuer has served two terms on the New York Stock Exchange Board of Directors’ Listed Company Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Advisory Board of Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona.
