Norman’s latest novel, The Light From the Dark Side of the Moon was published by Blank Slate Press in 2019. Ninety-two-year-old Henry Budge defies his family by escaping a Boston rehab hospital to make his way to France for the ceremonies marking the 70th observance of D-Day. Before he dies, he hopes to confront the grief he's harbored for decades and to rekindle fading memories of Élodie Bedier, the French Resistance fighter he loved and lost 70 years earlier. The Light From the Dark Side of the Moon, has earned strong praise and won the Gold Medal in the Midwest Book Awards competition. The critique of the Midwest editors in making the award is typical of the praise Norman consistently receives: “An exceptionally well crafted novel by an author with a genuine flair for originality and the kind of narrative storytelling style that grips the reader's total attention from cover to cover, The Light from the Dark Side of the Moon by Norman G. Gautreau is the kind of novel that will linger in the mind and memory long after it is finished and set back upon the shelf.” The novel is coming out in paperback and audio in 2022. Norman’s first published work, Sea Room (MacAdam/Cage, 2002), received great critical acclaim. It won the prestigious Massachusetts Book Award for Fiction in 2003, was selected as an “All-City-Reads” book in several cities, was a BookSenseTM selection, and has been used in several high school Advanced Placement English courses. When the publishing rights to his book reverted to him by the original publisher, Norman took the opportunity to re-write it and to add new material plus a reader’s guide. Sea Room—Revised Edition (Trobador Publishing, 2014) is now available. His second novel, Island of First Light (MacAdam/Cage, 2004) also garnered favorable reviews and has been a favorite among readers’ groups.
