Philip Lymbery is Chief Executive of the international farm animal welfare organisation, Compassion in World Farming. He has played a leading role in many major animal welfare reforms, including Europe-wide bans on veal crates for calves and barren battery cages for laying hens. He was appointed an ambassadorial 'Champion' for the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021. He also spearheaded Compassion in World Farming's engagement with more than 1,000 food companies, leading to genuine improvements in the lives of more than two billion farm animals every year. A columnist for The Scotsman, Philip is a dedicated animal advocate, naturalist, photographer and award-winning author. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Winchester, President of Eurogroup for Animals, the Brussels-based umbrella body of 80 leading animal welfare societies in Europe. He is also a founding Board member of the World Federation for Animals (WFA), a global membership organisation to represent the animal protection movement at intergovernmental level. His critically acclaimed books, Farmageddon: The true cost of cheap meat, and Dead Zone: Where the wild things were, were the first mainstream books to show factory farming as a major driver of wildlife declines and at the heart of what needs to change to stave off the climate, nature and pandemic emergencies now facing humanity. His third book, Sixty Harvests Left: How to reach a nature-friendly future was published by Bloomsbury in August 2022. He lives on a farm hamlet in West Sussex with his wife Helen, Duke the rescue dog, and flock of ex-battery hens. For more information, visit: http://philiplymbery.com/
