Hi there! I’m Rebecca Hall, a 30-year-old passionate candle crafter who turned a quiet hobby into a creative lifestyle—and now into a book for beginners just like you. My journey started like many creative ventures do—by accident and out of curiosity. I’ve always been drawn to the warm flicker of candlelight, the calming scent of lavender, the rustic appeal of something handmade. But one day, after buying yet another overpriced “natural” candle that barely had any smell and left black soot on my walls, I asked myself: “Could I make a better one?” The answer was yes. And it sparked something far greater than I ever expected. I started small—melting wax in my kitchen, experimenting with essential oils, testing wicks and jars, learning the difference between paraffin, soy, and beeswax. I made a lot of mistakes (let me tell you, scent throw is not as easy as it sounds!), but I also made progress. Slowly, my little apartment began to fill with the sweet, herbal aroma of eucalyptus, citrus zest, and warm vanilla bean. My friends noticed. Then their friends noticed. Before long, I was crafting candles for birthdays, weddings, and cozy nights in. What began as a hobby quickly became a part of my lifestyle—and something I knew I wanted to share. This book was born from a love for creating, a passion for natural ingredients, and a desire to help others feel the same joy I do every time I pour a batch of wax and see the final candle come to life. I wrote this for the total beginner—the person who has no clue where to start but wants to try. The person who’s tired of synthetic fragrances, mass production, and the endless scroll through Pinterest tutorials that don’t explain it enough. In these pages, you’ll find everything I’ve learned—from choosing between soy and beeswax, to understanding fragrance load, mastering wick sizes, preventing tunneling, and decorating your candles with dried herbs, flowers, or crystal toppers if you’re into that. What sets this book apart? It’s written by someone who’s been exactly where you are now. I’m not a large-scale manufacturer or a chemistry professor. I’m someone who’s made candles in a tiny kitchen using a double boiler, learned through trial and error, and figured out how to make candles that work, smell amazing, and feel personal. And let’s talk about ingredients. My focus is on natural components. Soy wax and beeswax are my go-tos, not only because they’re renewable and non-toxic, but because they create clean, slow-burning candles that you can feel good about using in your home or gifting to loved ones. Whether you want to start a business, create meaningful gifts, or enjoy a new, relaxing hobby, candle making offers the perfect combination of creativity, mindfulness, and practicality. Plus, it smells fantastic along the way. Outside of candle crafting, I’m a big believer in slow living. I enjoy spending time in nature, collecting herbs, and researching ancient rituals that centered around light and fragrance. There’s something timeless about fire—and something deeply personal about creating your source of it. So, welcome to your journey. You don’t need a lot of space, fancy tools, or a chemistry degree to make something beautiful. All you need is wax, a wick, and a little guidance. I hope this book becomes your companion in discovering a new passion—or maybe rediscovering a quiet, creative part of yourself. — 🕯 “A handmade candle is more than light—it’s intention, warmth, and a reminder that even something simple can brighten the darkest days.” Warm Regards, Rebecca Hall
