Richard A. Lovett has written or contributed to more than two dozen books in fields as diverse as sports, science, and science fiction. By profession, he is a science writer, distance-running coach, and award-winning science fiction author. In addition to his books, he has sold more than 50 science fiction stories, and written nearly 4,000 newspaper and magazine articles for such publications as Nature, Science, Outside, Travel & Leisure, Cosmos, Scientific American, and New Scientist. Much of his science-fiction-related work has appeared in Analog Science Fiction & Fact magazine, the magazine in which Isaac Asimov made his start. He is one of the top three all-time contributors in the magazine's history and has won its Anlab (reader's choice) Award a record-breaking 13 times. Lovett coaches Portland, Oregon's 250-member Team Red Lizard and has written hundreds of articles about racing, training, and health. He has coached numerous national champions, and seven times coached women U.S. Olympic Team Marathon Trials. He holds degrees in astrophysics, law, and economics, and was a law professor before he retired from academia to pursue full-time writing.
