Shel Banks is an IBCLC and NHS infant feeding specialist based in Lancashire, England, and is a mother with four adolescents. She is also Vice Chair of the charity UK Association for Milk Banking which supports milk banks in the provision of donor human milk for the most vulnerable babies, and Chair of LIFIB, which has been providing evidence based information about formula and bottle feeding to health professionals since 2008. Shel has a great interest in evidence based practice and the fully informed choice of expectant and new parents, and has contributed to 3 NICE Guidelines (Donor Milk Banking, Postnatal Care and Faltering Growth) and co-authored 3 Cochrane Systematic Reviews on various aspects of Infantile Colic. She is looking forward to working further on this from 2022 onwards as she delves deeper into the management of unsettled babies, during her doctoral studies. She has a small private practice specialising in unsettled babies, disturbed sleep, formula feeding and faltering growth, and as a tutor for health and social care professionals in the UK and across the world. Alongside teaching and coaching families and health professionals, Shel has also had a number of TV and radio appearances, including BBC Breakfast and the Channel 4 Dispatches documentary “The Great Infant Formula Feeding Scandal”.
