About The Author: Solomon Powell studied Greek, Hebrew, & general linguistics at Moody Bible Institute (B.A., Applied Linguistics, 2006, cum laude). He continued his linguistics studies at the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks), where he studied Second Language Acquisition under Dr. Greg Thomsen, and the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (Dallas, TX), where he studied semantics and componential analysis under Dr. Les Bruce, completing SIL's Certificate in Linguistics in 2009. He joined Wycliffe Bible Translators, serving as an exegetical assistant for the Ilchamus Bible Translation Project. During his service on this translation team he continued his studies in New Testament Greek under Benjamin Kantor (Biblical Language Center) and others and sought to apply his background in language acquisition towards the development of resources for mother-tongue-translators seeking to learn New Testament Greek more efficiently, including coordinating efforts towards the development of a Koine vocabulary-building supplement. In this venture, he logged thousands of hours in the field of componential analysis of Koine-period Greek words. He also contributed exegetical notes for the translation of the Gospel of Luke. He resigned from Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2012 to pursue a calling to pastoral ministry. He completed his M.Div (magna cum laude) at Moody Theological Seminary (Chicago, IL) in 2021, while pastoring in Rockford, IL, and taught Bible at Rock County Christian School in Beloit, WI. He is currently working on a Ph.D in Biblical Studies while enjoying his wife and two children in Delavan, WI. His works include: ~Shepherding 101: A 4-session equipping course for people (including lay people) experiencing a pull towards shepherding ministry (avail. on Youtube) ~”Rest & Refreshment: 2 Critical Practices that are a Part of God's Heart for You as a Shepherd” (2024) (earlier released as "Shepherd Despised: The Part of God's Heart We Neglect" (2017) ~“Discipleship Lost: The over-programming of the church, and the loss of vision for the simplicity and centrality of our greatest commission.
