Steve was born and raised in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1976 and served as a technician specializing in anti-submarine warfare and member of a Nuclear Weapons Handling Team. In 1978, Steve’s ship was sent to the Persian Gulf in response to rising tensions in Iran. In February of 1979, the Shah of Iran was overthrown. Chaos ensued. Ports of exit were closed. Thousands of American citizens and foreign nationals were trapped. Steve and crew took part in a successful nighttime rescue mission evacuating hundreds of men, women, and children to safety––foreshadowing darker days ahead and the coming Iran hostage crisis that lasted 444 days. After his Navy service, Steve settled in Olympia, Washington and began employment with the WA State Legislature. He served more than 25 years in various capacities for the Washington State House of Representatives and with the lobbying firm of Chiechi & Associates. Steve earned an Associate degree in theology from the Ambassador College in Big Sandy, TX. He went on to graduate from The Evergreen State College in Olympia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, concentrating his studies in public administration. Steve continues to call Olympia and the Puget Sound area his home where he writes fiction novels fulltime. Backslide is Steve’s first published novel, and the first in a series following the heroic exploits of an ex-Navy SEAL and his personal war against international drug cartels and the poisoning of America. Billy Ray Jenkins battles the enemies within the gates with the help of a maverick FBI agent, a beautiful redhead, and the sometime support of a secret federal committee known only as the K-KEY Group led by the President of the United States.
