Susana M. Morris is associate professor of Literature, Media, and Communication at the Georgia Institute of Technology and previously taught at Spelman College and Auburn University. She is the author of Close Kin and Distant Relatives: The Paradox of Respectability in Black Women’s Literature (University of Virginia Press 2014). She is the co-editor, with Brittney C. Cooper and Robin M. Boylorn, of The Crunk Feminist Collection (Feminist Press 2017) and co-editor, with Kinitra D. Brooks and Linda Addison, of Sycorax’s Daughters (Cedar Grove 2017), a short story collection of horror written by Black women. Susana is co-author, with Brittney C. Cooper and Chanel Craft Tanner, of the forthcoming young adult handbook, Feminist AF: The Guide to Crushing Girlhood (W.W. Norton 2021). She has written for Gawker, Cosmopolitan.com and Ebony.com, and has also been featured on NPR, HuffPost Live, and in Colorlines and Essence magazine. Susana is passionate about Afrofuturism, Black feminism, and climate change. Currently, Susana is working on a cultural biography of science fiction author Octavia E. Butler entitled Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia E. Butler (Amistad 2023). When Susana’s not reading, writing, or teaching, she’s probably baking somebody a cake.
