Tim Murtaugh has spent his entire career in political communications in one form or another at the state, Congressional, Executive Branch, and presidential levels. In February 2021, he founded Line Drive Public Affairs, LLC, a full-service communications consulting firm assisting conservative candidates for office and corporate clients. Prior to entering business for himself, Murtaugh served for two years as Director of Communications on the most-watched political campaign in world history – President Donald J. Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign – after serving in the administration in a similar post for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. Murtaugh has worked for more than two decades in state and national politics, including in senior roles at the Republican National Committee, Republican Governors Association, and numerous political campaigns. He served as Director of Communications in the House office of former Rep. Lou Barletta (PA-11) and as Director of Communications for the Republican Party of Virginia during former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s successful race for governor in 2009. Murtaugh was the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation in the George W. Bush Administration, and he also managed the successful 2006 re-election campaign for former Rep. Thelma Drake (VA-2). Murtaugh filled senior roles in the office of Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore and on Kilgore’s 2005 campaign for governor. He began his career in politics as press secretary on the victorious 2000 campaign of former Virginia Sen. George Allen. Prior to entering politics, he worked in radio news and covered Virginia government and politics as the Capitol Bureau Chief in Richmond for WVIR-TV (NBC) in Charlottesville. Murtaugh is a graduate of Temple University, lives in Leesburg, VA with his wife and two young sons, and is an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the rock band Rush.
