75% Combat, 20% nothing dialogue, 5% story moves
Revisado: 04-20-25
This was a nothing book, with the exception of the MC being a complete idiot, being so obviously manipulated that it completely breaks immersion for an extremely paranoid MC to not pick up on it. Prior to this book, I loved this series, but this book killed it.

Historia
After traveling across the entirety of the Sealance Empire and the deserts of Lowenthal, Larek has returned home to the Kingdom of Androthe to find that the situation is quite different from what he remembered. Not only are there massive Apertures called Calamities consuming large portions of the landscape, but most of his friends are also scattered to locations unknown around the Kingdom. Worse yet, they have no idea who he is because of the Dominion magic used on them before he was transported to the Empire.

Another step forward in the series
Revisado: 08-02-24
This book is another step forward in the series. It was a good book and a good addition to the series. At this point, the end of the series is in sight, but there is enough left for multiple books. The fusions are getting bigger, better, and stronger.
If I had to say something negative about the book it is that Larek's development as a character is slow (he is still full of self doubt, quick to anger, and reluctant to be the hero that he obviously is). I expect that to change over the next book or two.

Exposition
Revisado: 04-19-24
This book: Let me tell you about this thing. Let me tell you about this other thing. Let me tell you about cores. Let me tell you about tribulations. Let me tell you about the heavens. Fight. Let me tell you about this other thing. Interesting conversation. Let me tell you about these other 8 things. Romance. Let me tell you some more. Combat. Start upgrade, but wait, let me tell you more first.
This book was 95% telling, 5% showing. I love this series, but this book was boring for the most part.

Historia
All of the stories you've heard are wrong. They always tell you that starting a new life in a fantasy world is an amazing experience, full of magic, adventure, and true love...but they never tell you what happens when it's over. They don't tell you that it just happens again. And again. By the time you start your third new life in a row, all of that initial amazement wears off. That's where Lux finds himself now: dropped into yet another fantasy world, forced to restart his life all over again. He wants nothing more than to disappear...but it seems the world has other plans for him.

Everything I don't like in LitRPGs/ProgFantasy
Revisado: 01-21-24
Way too much romance. Too much is more than a few minutes. More than half of the book was slow burn romance.
One other thing I hate is when the MC gets imprisoned. One time I can deal with, but twice (technically more than that) is just so over the top infuriating that I won't even think about starting the next book, even though I already own it.

Historia
Larek Holsten is different from most people living in the Kingdom of Androthe, where his seven-foot-tall frame is looked at with suspicion and anger from its shorter residents; but as long as it helps him become the best Logger he can be, he doesn’t let it bother him all that much. He and his best friend, an axe with a powerful Fusion that causes it to become sharper and stronger than a normal tool, are feared by the trees in the magical forest north of his home, as he can fell the quickly growing monoliths faster than anyone else in the community.

Great book, as expected.
Revisado: 09-07-23
I have listened to over 30 book by Jonathan Brooks and they are all great. While this book IS different than the rest (not a dungeon core book), it is the same great writing as the rest. If anything, this book may be his most engaging yet, with me spending more time listening to it than not (I finished it a day earlier than I expected due to not wanted to hit the pause button on the book).
If I had to critique anything (minor spoiler ahead), I would say the MC, Larek, is a bit over paranoid, but also a little dumb with the way he goes about some things. That being said, he is young, so I would be more surprised if he wasn't dumb about some things. I also think that many of the other kids act well beyond their age, such that the age difference that is present is not apparent in the story, but this does not detract from the story.
All in all, I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.

Historia
Just as Fred is settling down in his new abode, he receives word that a favor is being called in, one he promised to a dangerously powerful member of otherworldly royalty. Bracing danger, adventure, and unknown threats, Fred is instead asked to take on an entirely different role than anticipated. Acting as interim professor at one of the few universities for supernatural entities, Fred will have to navigate a strange environment, eccentric coworkers, and unenthusiastic students. Yet that alone won't be enough, for this college has more history than the tales in its tomes.

Historia
Thousands of Heroes protect the land, defending against the periodic incursions by gigantic monsters known as World Threats. This was the way it had always been and Clay Shuntwise was perfectly fine with that. Running deliveries for his family’s shop in the sleepy town of Renton, the young teenager barely even thought about Heroes and their role in keeping the world safe. That was, at least, until a World Threat came crashing down on him.

Jonathan Brooks is the dungeon master. While each of his series are different, this one was even more unique than the others. While it is stats heavy, the chapters are set up in a way that makes getting past them easy.

Historia
Every battle needs a battlefield, especially in the eternal struggle between good and evil. But the unfortunate souls who are sent here don’t bide their time meekly awaiting judgment—they fight for their souls. Victor Goodspeed is a businessman, taken at the back end of his prime. He wasn’t a bad man, but he was a businessman, which didn’t tip the scales of morality in his favor. Now, he must fight for his life—his afterlife—with God and his armies of angels on one side, and the temptations of Lucifer and his minions on the other.

Good LitRPG
Revisado: 06-18-22
This was a good book. I base my reviews on three factors, does the book keep me awake, would I buy more books in the series, and would I recommend the book to others.
As for the first criteria, does it keep me awake, I am writing this review at 3am after I finished listening to it instead of sleeping, so yes, the book kept me awake.
As for the second, would I buy more books in the series, the answer is yes. If the next book was out, I would already be downloading it.
As for the final criteria, would I recommend it, the answer is it depends. If you are a LitRPG fan then yes, unless you want comedy, then no. There is a considerable amount of stats and combat, so it that is you thing, buy this book. The MC has character growth, both internal and stat-wise, so it would appeal to those who enjoy that.
The narration was spot on, especially with the multi-cast. There were no sound effects that affected the sound quality when speeding up the book (I listened at 2x speed). My only complaint, and it is very minor, was that the narrator reading the stats talked slower than the rest (I would listen to a book, where he is the primary narrator, at 2.5x speed, at least).
All in all, it was a good book and I'm happy to have listened to it.
Source: I have listened to almost 100 audiobooks this year, most of them LitRPGs.

Good writer, bad story
Revisado: 04-11-22
While the writing is good, to enjoy this series I am just going to have to pretend that the story takes place in an alternate reality where almost everyone is an immoral idiot. Seriously, even an immoral idiot would quickly notice that the NPCs are more than normal NPCs, and the way almost all PCs treat the NPCs shows that in that universe almost all people are immoral dirt bags.
The narrator loses a star for not being able to pronounce harem (sorry, but for such a ubiquitous word to be mispronounced is jarring).
