The zombie genre has a ton of different takes. It’s rare you find a refreshing new take that looks at it from an unfamiliar, but plausible angle. Hunger does that! It’s fun, adventurous, and at times it hooks you.

With three books in one it’s a great deal from one of my favorite authors. Get it!

It feels directionless and very haphazard. I don’t like any of the characters, they’re kinda annoying, including Azlo. The biggest problem is the momentum. Nothing happens. For long periods of time. Sorry, but stick to Kings Dark Tidings. This wasn’t worth reading.

Man meets alien life and they work together to save their home worlds from a terrible single-called life.

What a lovely read! Usually aliens are portrayed as evil green persons, but here they’re kind and gentle-hearted. Bravo!

The journey into madness and inhuman beast brings so many insights into what makes us human!

I am not going to lie, I shed some tears at the end of this story.

This isn’t really like Heart of Darkness, it’s more like Brave New World in reverse. He goes back to a Nietsche like state of inhuman beast. He sheds society and then comes back.

Ashan and Gwen really stand out as interesting characters. They bring Greg to these different states of nature or civilization.

Jeremy Robinson is a great author, and this book alongside Infinite and NPC are my favorites!

Simulation Theory 101

If you are interested in the nature of Reality, if you’ve ever thought to yourself “how do I know what I am perceiving isn’t just some simulation”, if you are a fan of the Matrix, or if you have at least dabbled in theology or the potential truth of mystical thinkers, then you should read this book. 10 stars!

I’ve long loved the Matrix, Interstellar, and other films that have at their root the idea that Reality is on another level above what we are initially perceiving. I believe this.

Today we call it Simulation Theory, because we have video game simulations, neural nets, augmented reality, and quantum computers, but it used to be called mystical Religion.

I’ve read Flatland, Plato’s Republic, Augustine’s City of God, etc. they’ve all got the same idea: we live in the Cave, the City of Man, or the Flat 2D plane, and if we consider the Creator we’ll wake up to the Real world. I agree with them. I can’t get enough of this idea because now that we can simulate worlds in bits, the idea of a Creator making us, the artificial intelligences, makes a lot more sense.

Anyways, check this book out! Read Infinite too, it’s amazing and explores Simulation Theory from a cosmological perspective, rather than this book, which was more of a teleological perspective. Enjoy!

It was unforgettable, well-written, unique, and super long. I wish it were longer! It has a hobbit-like feel, with a story very similar to Harry Potter, without the wands and magic. I can’t wait for book 2!

Wow! It starts out slow. Then it speeds up. And up. And up. And up.

The profoundness is crazy good. It’s a true revelation of who we are as humans and where we fit in the universe.

The narrator is perfect!

Just read it!

Hamsters, talking beer cans, lizards, giant spiders, interstellar space travel, monkeys, space grunts, and more clash in a battle over the universe! What more can you ask?!

R.C. Bray is probably the best and funniest narrators out there!!

Steve Jobs, the human

After reading Isaacson's book, I was really impressed by Steve Jobs. But I did get that feeling that Isaacson was merely rehashing many of the conflicting rumors and stereotypes of Jobs. Isaacson's didn't know Jobs that well, so it make sense that it was more impersonal.

Becoming Steve Jobs fills the vacuum left by Isaacson's book and is just as compelling! It humanizes Jobs, and is just as moving. I was emotional at points, not because I'm a Jobs fan, but because he was a serious failure at points and his rise, fall, rise, fall, rise, and then death is a rollercoaster in extremes!

Read/listen to this book! You won't regret it!

This was my first Erik Larson book, and I was not disappointed!

The story follows the U.S. Ambassador to Berlin in the years leading up to Hitler's reign of terror.

It is a uniquely American take on the rise of Naziism, which explores the profound difficulty of convincing the U.S. to see Hitler for who he truly was - dangerous and wicked.

It also presents a nuanced account of the German people during the rise of Hitler. Many dissidents were courageous, but were murdered in cold blood for speaking out against Hitler's persecution of the Jews or his senseless slaughter of the German people.

We must remember that in countries under totalitarian regimes there are always those that speak out and are killed for their bravery. I honor those that died in bravery by trying to stand up against tyranny and I know they would be glad to see the Germany of today.
