Acerca de esta escucha

Is your life real or is the world you live in a simulation? Are the people you call friends and neighbors living beings with inalienable rights, or are they NPCs - Non-Player Characters - whose soulless path through life is predetermined?

Samael Crane, a brilliant scientist, believes NPCs are all around us. And he can prove it.

When a body is discovered in the bay off Essex, Massachusetts, small town pastor and former Marine plagued by doubts, Ezekiel Ford finds himself called in to identify the deceased. His history is unknown. His full name is a mystery. No one knows where he came from. In fact, Ezekiel seems to be the only person in town who ever really noticed him, living on the fringe of reality, and sometimes in the homeless shelter supported by his church.

Ezekiel’s involvement in the case doesn’t go unnoticed by Samael, who has set out to prove - through deadly means - that NPCs exist, that reality is simulated, and that ‘God’ is a coder with a grudge. The two men’s missions become inextricably entwined, leading them down a path through the gray area between good and evil, science and religion, and reality and simulation, barreling toward a truth that will change the world and humankind’s place in it forever.

New York Times and number one Audible.com best-selling author Jeremy Robinson takes listeners on a journey that is not only action-packed, but full of scientific and philosophical intrigue. In his most mind-bending story since Infinite and Alter, Robinson blends genres, belief systems, and bold prose into an unputdownable tale exploring the nature of reality.

In the audiobook edition he is joined by number one Audible.com best-selling narrators, R.C. Bray and Jeffrey Kafer, creating a truly one-of-a-kind listening experience.

Um...Wow, what, huh?

I don't normally write reviews, but this book was a trip. The two narrators threw me off for about one chapter til I understood. After that, I thought it worked out really well.

The story? I don't even know where to start. Twist on top of twist on top of twist. Like some of Jeremy's other books, at the end I'm left feeling both satisfied and yearning for the story to continue. I'm a software engineer, and some of the technical bits caught me completely off guard. Some of them even had me chuckling.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I had a hard time shutting it off to get some sleep last night and do some work today. There's some "edge of your seat" action, but it's more of a mind f*** than anything. If you liked Infinite, I think you'll like this. I can't wait to see what kind of story he comes up with next.

I also think that this will be another repeat listen for me. Several of his other books I've already listened to multiple times. Speaking of which, I may have to queue up The Others for the 3rd or 4th time. Then maybe Infinite, yet again.

Refreshing break from space operas!

I came here from infinite and 10 other space operas. This was the warm reboot I needed.

Awesome story from an amazing author!

NPC was an excellent journey into the question of do we all really just live in a simulation. If you are a fan of quirky jokes and emotional roller coasters then this book is for you! Even if you're not a fan of those things I still believe you will find enjoyment out of this story. A huge thanks to the Author and the narrators of which are my personal favorites! I go out of my way to look for books that involve any of these fine gentlemen.

Simulation Theory 101

If you are interested in the nature of Reality, if you’ve ever thought to yourself “how do I know what I am perceiving isn’t just some simulation”, if you are a fan of the Matrix, or if you have at least dabbled in theology or the potential truth of mystical thinkers, then you should read this book. 10 stars!

I’ve long loved the Matrix, Interstellar, and other films that have at their root the idea that Reality is on another level above what we are initially perceiving. I believe this.

Today we call it Simulation Theory, because we have video game simulations, neural nets, augmented reality, and quantum computers, but it used to be called mystical Religion.

I’ve read Flatland, Plato’s Republic, Augustine’s City of God, etc. they’ve all got the same idea: we live in the Cave, the City of Man, or the Flat 2D plane, and if we consider the Creator we’ll wake up to the Real world. I agree with them. I can’t get enough of this idea because now that we can simulate worlds in bits, the idea of a Creator making us, the artificial intelligences, makes a lot more sense.

Anyways, check this book out! Read Infinite too, it’s amazing and explores Simulation Theory from a cosmological perspective, rather than this book, which was more of a teleological perspective. Enjoy!

Entertaining intro to simulation theory

Enjoyable and entertaining but relatively light on the philosophical implications of simulation theory. Would read again.

Alternate reality

This was a fun book to listen to. The narrators are top notch. R.C. Bray is my all time favorite narrator and I was equally impressed with Jeff as well. The story grabbed my attention and I could see it playing out as a movie in my head.

Great Job of Covering the Thought of Reality

Really enjoyed this book. I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of this world not being “real”. Asks the tough questions and even gives a few answers.

An Technological Investigation into Spirituality

I found this story fascinating and thought provoking. The manner in which Jeremy reflects upon his search for the truth of things, the raison d'etre captured my imagination and curiosity from the first chapter to the last word.
Mankind's wonderment and desire to understand our place in this construct we call life is perplexing to me as well. I appreciate Jeremy tackling this question through such diverse and complex characters. I would recommend this book to both people who practice religion and those that just like to think about the reason for being.

Another Mind-Blowing Story

First of all, what a complete treat to have Bray and Kafer bring this book to life. And the cherry on top was they were narrating a book by one of my most favorite authors. I know this will be a book I'll go back and listen to - probably a couple of times. Just get the book and buckle in for a wild ride.
