Historia
The very moment that Raina Wingate learns her husband of sixteen years wants to separate, she gets a call that her father has suffered a stroke. Racing to her family’s home on Amelia Island, Florida, Raina hopes the time apart will heal her cracked marriage and that she can step into her father’s real estate business and keep it running. Her sister, Tori, a divorcee who owns a catering business in Boston, also flies in to join the others at the hospital. But an unexpected run-in with their father’s rather attractive neurologist adds a new dimension to the days and weeks ahead.

Moving story about commitment and love
Revisado: 05-01-24
I loved this story! The story spanned 3 generations and 2 wars with commitment and love omnipresent. The author does speak of war atrocities but only to the point necessary for the conveyance of the story and the depth of character. So, although this is mostly set in WWII northern Italy, it isn't a WWII novel. The story is empowering and uplifting. My ancestors being from Northern Italy really makes an additional connection

Historia
The ideal lady wears lace, speaks quietly, and never - under any circumstances - fixes an automobile. But Gwyn Ruthers has never cared two snaps about being the ideal lady. With the war to end all wars exploding across the English Channel, she leaves behind her restrictive life as a chauffer's daughter to serve in an all-female ambulance unit in France. She's not about to let her social status or gender prevent her from serving her country. Not even a handsome captain can distract her from her mission. Most of the time.

WWI Story of Devotion, Determination, and Dreams
Revisado: 04-10-24
I have found myself drawn to historical fiction especially WWI and WWII era stories and this story didn’t disappoint. I really liked all of the characters and the grit of the main character, Gwen. The narrator did a beautiful job telling the story, Gwen’s voice, and most of the other female voices, but the male voices were terrible. I found Captain Chamberlain’s voice especially annoying and unrealistic.
Despite the annoying male voices, the story is was very enjoyable.

Great story-couldn’t put it down
Revisado: 07-13-23
I loved this story. It spanned different times, locations, and lives and entwined them wonderfully. I experienced a wide array of emotions and feelings during the life of this story. The main characters are all very different but their interactions and stories demonstrate how people who come from very different backgrounds, have very different experiences and hold very different thoughts can all be solidly connected.
Saskia Maarleveld is an amazing narrator. She has the best storytelling abilities and voice.
I strongly recommend this book especially to those enjoy historical based fiction and/or stories of strong women

Overnight, Veronica is exposed to the dark underbelly of her new home, where Nazis are recruiting Americans.

LOVED Win!
Revisado: 09-29-21
I chose this book without knowing anything about the Myron Bolitar series and absolutely LOVED it. The twists and turns were always unexpected and true to Harlan Coben’s style but I especially enjoyed the main character-Win. He was a welcome change from the traditional leading man - even the badass ones. I hope there’s another WIn novel!
