AI generated narration
Revisado: 01-10-25
The narration for this book is CLEARLY not voice actors, but AI generated. I’m shocked no one else has picked up on this fact. Although it is a very good story, the artificial nature of the voices made it impossible for me to finish this audiobook. Shame, as I enjoyed the storyline quite a bit. I’ll just read the book instead.

Historia
Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

Worst narrator EVER!!!!
Revisado: 12-02-16
I love Garwood novels, this was one of my first and favorite reads, but holy cow this narrator DESTROYS this story. Her female voices are like whiney little girls and her male voices are all throaty and garbled, to the point where I had to stop listening and remind myself I DID like the book. The male voices are screamed repeatedly and are jarring. The narrator often has this weird inflection at the end of sentences that is beyond grating. Also, all these positive reviewers of her performance are obviously not familiar with a Scottish accent. This narrator’s accent is one of the poorest attempts I’ve ever heard. I’m truly baffled by reviewers that praise her.

Historia
When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss...

The misery of listening to this narrator!!
Revisado: 07-10-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
HP is always time well-spent, even with this atrocious narrator.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Book 3?
The scene with Harry, Lupin, Sirius, Ron, Hermione, and Snape in the Screeching Shack.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jim Dale’s performances?
Only because I LOVE the HP series.
Was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Book 3 worth the listening time?
Once you can get past the whiny undertone the narrator gives the female characters, his significant speech impediment (Sirius becomes "Seeweeus," Remus is "Weemus"), and his increscent use of "Voldamoe" instead of Voldemort....there is a T on the end and it's not French!!!!
Any additional comments?
The Stephen Fry narration of this series is strikingly better than Mr. Dale's performance. Wish it had been his instead.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

LOVE all the HP books, but this narrator....
Revisado: 07-10-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Just the narrator... He has a very pronounced speech impediment, pronounces many of his 'R's as 'W's, so "Harry" becomes "Hawwy" repeatedly. He also has a terrible habit of pronouncing "Voldemort" as if it's a French name, "Voldamoe" and the 't' on the end is silent. His portrayal of the female characters is TERRIBLE. Hermione sounds like a whiny poodle through most of the book! He emphasizes the wrong words in dramatic sentences and is often "breathy" during intense parts. It was a very odd choice for a narrator as his grasp of what children should sound like is so off base. I was truly disappointed.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Couldn't begin to pick just one.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Dale?
Stephen Fry, his reading is spot on.
Was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Book 1 worth the listening time?
Once I was able to stop cringing every time Mr. Dale mispronounced or "wheezed" through words, yes.

LOVE Harry Potter, but this narrator.....
Revisado: 07-10-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
After reading all the HP books, I was really looking forward to listening to the stories, especially as I wind down from a long day, but this narrator is just horrendous. First he has a TERRIBLE speech impediment, says many of his 'R's as 'W's, Harry comes out as "Hawwy." Secondly he pronounces Voldemort in the most pretentious way possible, he pronounces it as if it's French and the 'T' on the end is silent, "Voldemoe." His female voices are atrocious. Hermione sounds like an out of breath poodle! It was such a disappointment.
What did you like best about this story?
The story, not the narration.
How could the performance have been better?
I wish we could have had the Stephen Fry narrated books instead.
Was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Book 2 worth the listening time?
Kind of.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

absolute wrong choice for a narrator.
Revisado: 02-10-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
with the exception of some drawn out descriptions, the only thing that this book lacks is Dick Hill back as the narrator.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jonathan McClain?
Dick Hill
Any additional comments?
I'm not sure if the narrator is a bad narrator or not, I just know he's not the right narrator for this story. I actually put this on in the evenings when I go to bed and within 20 minutes I am fast asleep. I am glad to see that they do eventually bring Mr. Hill back as narrator in future books.

I'm downloading this book to my Nook as I just can not get through all this mans "HMMMs" and "AAAAHHHHs" and breathy sounds and swallows. I can truly say he is one of the WORST narrators I have ever come accross and that's saying alot, as I listen to audio books daily! Please don't bother wasting your money on this hoping the reviews are just super picky....this really, really sucks!

Good book, dislike the narrator
Revisado: 04-07-10
Although the author spends a little to much time describing scenery and characters physical descriptions, I enjoy this series. The narrator does a good job with distinguishing different character dialog, however, she has a strange "wet" sound she makes. It reminds me of listening to an elderly person who has to clear their dentures of saliva to continue speaking. Even with this distraction, I plan on getting the next in the series just to see what happens next to Harper and Toliver.
