Historia
Years after her ruin at the hands of George Wickham, Georgiana Darcy is a virtual prisoner at Pemberley as a result of her brother’s good intentions. Drastic changes have taken their toll, leaving brother and sister adrift from polite society. Faithful to his vow to prevent further harm to his sister, Fitzwilliam Darcy has retreated from the few friends and acquaintances who still acknowledge him. Lonelier than ever, Darcy’s life is swallowed up by darkness until the day a young woman is discovered close to death on the estate grounds.

Kidnapped three times?!
Revisado: 04-25-25
Elizabeth’s intelligence is incongruous with the plot. Either she is dumb as a post and gets kidnapped every six chapters or she is smart. Can’t have both.

Historia
Brilliant, sensitive, and private, Fitzwilliam Darcy finds himself at the Meryton Assembly, consciously troubled by recent events in Ramsgate and unconsciously troubled by himself. He insults Elizabeth Bennet, at whom he has only glanced. It is not until she appears at Netherfield—full of life, skirted in mud, and eager to attend to her sick sister—that Darcy truly looks at her. When he does, he knows she is the woman he has been searching for, the elusive her of his heart.

Authentic variation

Loved the philosophy lessons! Plutarch and Samuel Johnson. Elizabeth was a smidge irritatingly unkind. Darcy was a dream though.

Historia
When Elizabeth Bennet first knew Mr. Darcy, she despised him and was sure he felt the same. Angered by his pride and reserve, influenced by the lies of the charming Mr. Wickham, she never troubled herself to believe he was anything other than the worst of men - until, one day, he unexpectedly proposed. Mr. Darcy's passionate avowal of love causes Elizabeth to reevaluate everything she thought she knew about him.

Great variation of PnP. Lovable Darcy meets terribly confused Elizabeth. Misunderstandings sorted beautifully. Recommend this one.

Although standing strong during the worst confrontation of Miss Elizabeth’s life, she soon realizes that she cannot marry Mr. Darcy and refuses him.

Historia
In this low angst, a sweet retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bennet is not just idle, he is actively cruel. And Mrs. Bennet, while still uneducated, must do whatever she can to protect her daughters from their father. Mr. Darcy’s epiphany comes much earlier than in canon and it changes his relationships not only with the Bennets but with his sister, his cousin Anne, and Bingley. When the Bennet matriarch moves to an estate outside of Bath with her daughters, Bingley follows and so do both Darcy siblings.

Awful nonsensical drivel
Revisado: 01-15-24
Save the credit and your time for better efforts. Elizabeth is vapid, gullible, inconstant, and stupid. Darcy is one dimensional. The plot is laughably implausible. Caroline Bingley has superhuman powers of persuasion as well as behavior that ignores virtually every rule of conduct expected of any woman in the Regency era. Also, Elizabeth as a woman of such poor judgment and entertaining such a dismal level of trust would make a horribly uncomfortable wife. Mr. Collins luckily escaped a terrible fate when Darcy stole his fiancé. Darcy had no honor and Elizabeth had no sense. I hate this version. Hate it.

Boring - could not finish
Revisado: 09-10-23
Like watching paint dry. Too many characters for one narrator such that identifying who was speaking was a challenge. Could not like nerdy snake and bug lady and I’m a scientist. We can talk about other things outside science without trying to impress others by our depth of intellect. Just too fraught with artificial conduct all around. Where was the social code of honor? Anachronism abounds. It’s a mess.

AWFUL
Revisado: 03-20-23
Jane Austen is dishonored by the abuse of her characters in this over the top ridiculous rendition. It is far more Ann Radcliffe than Austen although at least Radcliffe could turn a phrase. Gooey discourse, tropey dilemmas, one dimensional characters. I find it difficult to dislike Elizabeth but I hated this simpering “oh save me” variety. Darcy spoke as if he had a woman’s brain. No man talks like that. Save yourself and choose a better book this one is a waste.
