Historia
Mal wins an old map in a card game. Ancient and written in impenetrable symbols, the former owner insists it's worthless. Yet River Tam can read it, and says it leads to one of the Arks - legendary ships that brought humans from Earth-that-was to the 'Verse. The salvage potential alone is staggering. But the closer they get to the ancient ship, the more agitated River becomes.

Really Great Book to listen to
Revisado: 01-31-24
I have listen to books in the Firefly series before but this one was the best. It had the entire crew represented in the first part before Lenora and Shepard went on a separate trip and then the action took off. River was a driving force in the action throughout the story with the rest of the crew being their normal outstanding heroics to save each other. The story also has the appearance of two women with the “hands of blue”. It also gives more fill in on stories that took place during the TV series. It also has a Superhuman serial killer that is part of Rivers origin.

Historia
Thousands of miles from friendly ports, the US Navy had finally managed to complete the capture of Guadalcanal from the Japanese in early 1943. Now the Allies sought to keep the offensive momentum won at such a high cost. This is the central plotline running through this page-turning history beginning with the Japanese Operation I-Go and the American ambush of Admiral Yamamoto and continuing on to the Allied invasion of New Georgia, northwest of Guadalcanal in the middle of the Solomon Islands and the location of a major Japanese base.

Absolutely a Master Piece Work
Revisado: 06-18-23
I listened to the entire 31 hours and 15 minutes of this book. I love books that give the story from all sides, military and civilian involved in the conflict. This book has everything from Japanese aircraft fighting in the air to watching American bombers raiding their airfields. The very brutal naval battles are very interesting and don’t stop with the sinking of a ship but follow the story of the survivors. Highly recommend this book.

Judge Anderson Fan
Revisado: 01-10-23
Having first seen Judge Anderson in the movie “Dredd”, I took an immediate liking to her character in Judge Dredd’s universe. So on seeing Judge Anderson Year One on Audible, I knew that I had to give it a listen. It’s not one storyline all the way through the book, which was a disappointment. Then as the first two stories played out and finding them entertaining, it wasn’t that bad. Another team up with Anderson and Dredd in a full length book following one story with interlaced side stories of the day to day would be worth buying.

Historia
Although previously undervalued for their strategic impact because they represented only a small percentage of total forces, the Union and Confederate navies were crucial to the outcome of the Civil War. In War on the Waters, James M. McPherson has crafted an enlightening, at times harrowing, and ultimately thrilling account of the war’s naval campaigns and their military leaders. McPherson recounts how the Union navy’s blockade of the Confederate coast, leaky as a sieve in the war’s early months, became increasingly effective as it choked off vital imports and exports.

Interesting story
Revisado: 07-11-22
Some interesting aspects of the naval war for both sides. The Johnsonville, TN battle involving General Nathan Bedford Forrest cavalry and the Union Navy did not tell a full story of the disaster inflicted on the navy from ambuscades against the ships but there is an entire book on that fight. The interesting aspect was the coverage of many of the minor raids along the coast. It also pointed out that many of the Union Navy Captains and a few Admirals were making a side “profit” on their service on the rivers and the coast. Still it was a good book to listen to in its story.

Historia
Following the disastrous Java Sea campaign, the Allies went on the offensive in the Pacific in a desperate attempt to halt the Japanese forces that were rampaging across the region. With the conquest of Australia a very real possibility, the stakes were high. Their target: the Japanese-held Soloman Islands, in particular the southern island of Guadalcanal. Hamstrung by arcane pre-war thinking and a bureaucratic mind-set, the US Navy had to adapt on the fly in order to compete with the mighty Imperial Japanese Navy, whose ingenuity had fostered the creation of its Pacific empire.

Excellent audiobook
Revisado: 07-03-22
This was an excellent audiobook to listen to about the early fighting for Guadalcanal - Solomons Campaign from August - October 1942. It contains personal experiences from the American and Japanese sides. The mistakes made by both sides are detailed. The air battles are very detailed with losses of pilots and victories obtained. The sea war is also very detailed. The fighting on the ground on Guadalcanal is overwhelming in the description of death and hardships faced by both sides. It is over 20 hours in its length and I had to on occasion to go back and replay it to refresh where I was in the battle.

Historia
In the early years of the Second World War, the elite force of German submariners known as the Ubootwaffe came perilously close to perfecting underwater battle tactics and successfully cutting Britain's transatlantic lifeline. To the Allies, these enemy sailors were embarking on a mission of unequivocal evil. Each member of the Ubootwaffe understood that he must take pride in being part of a unique brotherhood. He had to do so because he was setting out on a journey that would test his mental and physical endurance to the very limits, and which he had little chance of surviving.

Not what I hoped in a U-Boat book
Revisado: 07-29-21
I got to listen to this book on Audible with my membership and glad that I didn’t pay for the actual book. The author skips around on subjects. I was listening to a 1940 convoy battle and the subject then switched to World War 1 with the sinking of the Lusitania and sinking’s during that period. The descriptions range from US bombers attacking to U-Boat pens to French civilians describing the bombing, which was interesting. I expected more of descriptions from U-Boat personnel.

Historia
In this brilliant narrative of America's first limited war, Toland lets both the events and the participants speak for themselves, employing scrupulous archival research and interviews as the bases for the drama and accuracy of his writing. In Mortal Combat reveals Mao's prediction of the date and place of MacArthur's Inchon landing, Russia's indifference to the war, Mao's secret leadership of the North Korean military, and the true nature of both sides' treatment and repatriation of POWs.

Very Good Book on the Korea War
Revisado: 04-20-21
This book was a really good book using first person descriptions from all sides. The POW stories were really good. I found the descriptions of the battles after the disaster in North Korea to be to brief for my liking but overall I would recommend this book.

Like many historical events, the American Revolution is sometimes overlooked, ignored, or minimized by historians due to being shrouded in romantic myth and stubborn stereotypes. Here historian Phillip Thomas Tucker provides an in-depth look at the events of the Battle of Trenton, weeding out fiction and legend and presenting new insights and analysis.

Excellent story of Washington’s Battle at Trenton on 26 December 1776
Revisado: 03-30-21
I listened to this book on Audible which was 27 hours and 12 minutes long. I had some years ago listened to Washington’s Crossing by David Hackett Fischer on CD. I found Tucker’s book far more interesting. Following the battle from personal descriptions of both sides makes it interesting. The only drawback with Audible is the lack of maps to follow the maneuvers of the battle, which is not possible while driving but if you have the Kindle it is possible to follow the text as it is read with the maps.
Tucker describes the Revolutionary War as a Civil War in some parts, which is a also a proper description. The British Army and the German troops called Washington’s Army the Rebels and traitors but Washington’s troops considered themselves as Patriots and the Continental Army. There was not complete support for the American Revolution as many of the people were still loyal to England. This was made clear by the fact some of the New Jersey counties that Washington’s army went through were loyalists and no one wanted to be left behind as a straggler from exhaustion. My ancestors in South Carolina had to also fight against their Loyalists neighbors, so this was not just a New Jersey occurrence.
Still this was an outstanding victory described in this book. Americans owe Washington and his soldiers the greatest praise for what they accomplished at Trenton. The book doesn’t just contain the scenes from the battle but biographies of both sides in the battle and events following the war. Hopefully, Tucker will follow up with the Battle of Princeton, NJ in January 1777.

Excellent unit history of Julius Caesar’s 10th Legion
Revisado: 12-16-20
I have always had an interest in Julius Caesar’s early campaigns but this book is the entire history of his 10th Legion. I listed to this book with my audible membership and enjoyed it immensely. The narration by Stuart Langton was excellent and did not grind like a few books that I had listened too. The author researched the unit history from many resources and corrected some of Caesar’s boastful memoirs but it did not take away from his intelligence and energy of doing things. After the passing of Caesar this unit was involved in the destruction of Jerusalem and the dispersing of the Jews out of Israel. The 10th Legion fought in nearly every European country of Western Europe from England to Greece and much of North Africa and the Middle East. Highly recommend this book.

The Last Punisher is a bold, no-holds-barred first-person account of the Iraq War. With wry humor and moving testimony, Kevin Lacz tells the story of his tour in Iraq with SEAL Team Three, the warrior elite of the navy. This legendary unit, known as The Punishers, included Chris Kyle ( American Sniper), Mike Monsoor, Ryan Job, and Marc Lee. These brave men were instrumental in securing the key locations in the pivotal 2006 Battle of Ramadi, told with stunning detail in this book.
