Historia
On a tiny island off Paradiso, Florida, in 1970, neighbors gather to toast two new arrivals: shy Catherine and her taciturn husband, Dr. Frank Overbrook, who is taking over an old friend’s medical practice. It’s an intimate welcoming for the newlyweds, who have abandoned city life for swaying palms and an ocean breeze. But the morning after is anything but peaceful when Frank is found dead on the beach.

Maybe I like the story?
Revisado: 04-27-25
I don’t know if I can keep listening to this. I think the story may be alright, but the narrators are terrible. The woman sounds like a teenager, not a middle aged adult, and the guy sounds like he’s reading song details off the top 20 countdown. The voices are all wrong and it’s making it hard to focus on the story.

Skipped forward. Hated the end
Revisado: 04-12-25
Story is a good idea in some ways but it didn’t hold my attention and I finally just skipped ahead to the end, which I was not a fan of at all.

Historia
Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself.

Great story… needs a new narrator
Revisado: 03-12-25
Obviously these books are massively popular — they are great stories. I downloaded the audio to listen with my daughter on a road trip, and if this was just a book review it would be 5 stars, but since Audible is also about narration, I can’t give it a 5. The narrator got worse and worse as it went along. His accents are not good, and while many of the characters weren’t represented well, the dumb surfer dude voice for Luke was absolutely horrible and almost made it unlistenable when he was reading those parts. Will not be listening to any others in the series.

Historia
Writer Karen Walker knows more than most about murderers. Her first love went on to become The Bagman, a notorious serial killer now locked away for life in a maximum-security prison. Karen has spent her life running from the weight of having loved him, defended him and, ultimately, leading the police to his door. But now, ten years later, just as she’s about to publish her account of his crimes, a young woman is abducted in horribly familiar circumstances.

Not a bad story.
Revisado: 02-26-25
It had some predictable story points, but was a good enough story. Narrator was ok. I don’t love when they read with anxious, shaky voices the whole book just because it’s a murder mystery/thriller, so that got a bit old.

Historia
As long as there’s hope of finding life, no mission is too dangerous for Meg Jennings and her colleagues in the FBI K-9 unit. But locating the wreckage of a hijacked private plane high in the Elk Mountains of Colorado is treacherous in a multitude of ways—some of them impossible for even a seasoned team to predict. The plane, carrying the board of directors of Barron Pharmaceuticals, crashed on a rocky peak and was cleaved in two. Perilous weather means the rescuers have to ascend on foot, with their dogs unleashed in case of falls.

Still trying.
Revisado: 12-04-24
I have always enjoyed this series, but I’ve only made it to chapter 10 and feel like I’m just listening to someone read the specifics of a climbing manual, which is not interesting. So many minutes spent talking about carabiners and harnesses and footholds and etc. — let’s get to the story. Stopping for a bit and maybe will come back to it. Or skip to the end.

Historia
Alex Armstrong has changed everything about herself—her name, her appearance, her backstory. She’s no longer the terrified teenager a rapt audience saw on television, emerging in handcuffs from the quiet suburban home the night her family was massacred. That girl, Alexandra Quinlan, nicknamed Empty Eyes, was accused of the killings, fought to clear her name, and later took the stand during her highly publicized defamation lawsuit that captured the attention of the nation. It’s been ten years since, and Alex hasn’t stopped searching for answers about the night her family was killed.

Meh.. it's ok
Revisado: 12-03-24
I echo the others who don't understand how this narrator made it though a whole book pronouncing Chi as "chai," (and also had a horrible English accent), but aside from the narrator, the story meanders. The section set in London at the beginning of the novel is too drawn out and not at all necessary, really, and then there's the story climax, where one character who is supposedly a careful and experienced investigator, walks away from a room and a suspicious person and leaves information pulled up on a computer for anyone to find. This is my second novel from this author, and it seems she's a fan of a last minute twist. Those are great sometimes, but not every time. I'm interested in some of her other stories, but hope it's not the same with each one.

Revisado: 10-20-24
I like the story enough so far, but I'm on chapter 23 and there are still 7 hours left -- I can't listen to this narrator for 7 more hours. I can't explain it, but the delivery is too practiced and unnatural. She sounds like a 1950s sitcom mom or something with the tone she uses. Just not for me.

Liked it until I didn't.
Revisado: 10-04-24
First off, Julia Whelan and the other narrators were great (other than the vapid podcast voices, which I'm thankful only existed for a chapter). But the story... I wouldn't categorize this as suspense or horror, but more than that, every relationship was toxic, especially the female friendship/sisters relationships in each timeline. Awful. And after all that, the twist at the end just made me mad.

Historia
Nora Noone’s father was many things to many people. To the public he was a self-made titan of industry, whose luxury boutique hotels were among the most coveted destinations in the world. To his three ex-wives, he was a loving yet distant family man who managed to keep his finances—and his families—separate. But, to Nora, he was always a mystery—especially after his suspicious death at his cliffside home.

I might have liked this better if it hadn’t been categorized as suspense — it’s not, and so I kept waiting for something to happen until I got to about 3 hours left and just skipped to the last few chapters.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

It’s a no from me.
Revisado: 09-17-24
By chapter 3 I was over the narrator. Did a little digging on the direction this was going to go, and just no. Will return. The main character is unlikable, and I’m not interested in affairs and justifications and the need to talk about sex constantly.
