Historia
In 1980, a wealthy businessman named Carl Fletcher is kidnapped from his driveway, brutalized, and held for ransom. He is returned to his wife and kids less than a week later, only slightly the worse, and the family moves on with their lives, resuming their prized places in the saga of the American dream, comforted in the realization that though their money may have been what endangered them, it is also what assured them their safety.

Surprising
Revisado: 07-16-24
Long Island Compromise was surprisingly powerful. I was annoyed at times, most of the time, at the portrayal of stereotypical Jewish mothers as, disappointed, overbearing, emotionally distant, and controlling women. But, the characters were so well developed that by the end of the book I was a bit dazed. I will ponder my feelings and reaction before I start a new book.

Historia
It was easy for Elizabeth. She married the man she loved, bore him two children and made a home for him which was the envy of their friends. It was harder for Ruth. She married Elizabeth’s son and then found that, somehow, she could never quite measure up. Isolation, deceit and betrayal fill the gaps between the two individual women and between their different worlds. In this complex thriller, Philippa Gregory deploys all her insight into what women want and what women fear, as Ruth confronts the shifting borders of her own sanity.

Maddening
Revisado: 05-23-24
One might contend that a book that causes a highly emotive response has done its job, concluding that it’s a good book. But, I counter that a book that causes frustrated from the first page until the last is simply frustrating. I couldn’t stand the main characters, and the conclusion. MADDENING! I only finished it because I was hoping for redemption, or at the very least some change.

Historia
When Boady Sanden first receives the case of Elijah Matthews, he’s certain there’s not much he can do. Elijah, who believes himself to be a prophet, has been locked up in a psychiatric hospital for the past four years, convicted of brutally murdering the pastor of a megachurch. But as a law professor working for the Innocence Project, Boady agrees to look into Elijah’s file. When he does, he is alarmed to find threads that lead back to the death of his colleague and friend, Ben Pruitt, a man shot to death four years earlier in Boady’s own home.

A Heads Up
Revisado: 04-05-24
If you aren’t looking for a heavily Christian book this isn’t for you. Under the guise of a thriller lies a Christian message. The text is riddled with Bible quotes with what seemed to be 80% of the book. Although, the narrator/protagonist is written to appear skeptical, it’s not successful . The writing was weak and the story didn’t grab me or offer anything that will leave a lasting impression except my annoyance of being missionary in context.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Not my favorite Stephen King
Revisado: 03-10-24
When I saw that it was co- written with his son Owen it made sense. There were elements of S.K.’s brilliance but for the most part it didn’t have the power and magic.

Important
Revisado: 02-16-24
I was born in 1967 so I don’t have any personal recognition for the Vietnam War or the treatment the men and women had when they came home beyond what I’ve heard, briefly read or from the movies I’ve seen. . This book is immensely important! I hadn’t thought of the women, we still only hear about the men. It’s sad and unforgivable that they were denied acknowledgment and that the lack of recognition of their service added to the already horrific trauma they suffered both in war and when home. I plan to read more about these brave women who may not have been in a platoon but whose service was equally, if not more important saving lives, as the men that were there!

Historia
Out of control of his actions, Billy Milligan was a man tormented by twenty-four distinct personalities battling for supremacy over his body—a battle that culminated when he awoke in jail, arrested for the kidnap and rape of three women. In a landmark trial, Billy was acquitted of his crimes by reason of insanity caused by multiple personality—the first such court decision in history—bringing to public light the most remarkable and harrowing case of multiple personality ever recorded.

Weak Believability
Revisado: 08-21-23
Whereas, I appreciate the authors attempt to piece together conversations among the personalities and outside people, I found them weak and unbelievable. The general story of a man with multiple personalities was interesting. Unfortunately, the portrayal was lacking.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Fair to middling.

The strength of the book was a relevant discussion about being trans, in particular a trans woman. Unfortunately, it was also predictable and laced with cliches.

That's the question that has haunted 14-year-old Ezekiel Blast all his life. But he's not a thief, he just has a talent for finding things. Not a superpower - a micropower. Because what good is finding lost bicycles and hair scrunchies, especially when you return them to their owners and everyone thinks you must have stolen them in the first place? If only there were some way to use Ezekiel's micropower for good, to turn a curse into a blessing. His friend Beth thinks there must be, and so does a police detective investigating the disappearance of a little girl.

Two different tones/feelings
Revisado: 02-10-23
3.5
I was delighted to laugh through the beginning chapters and I thought, “This is going to be a lot of fun.” However, and I’m saying this understanding it’s nearly impossible to keep someone laughing through an entire book, (except Stephen king), but the tone and seriousness completely changed in the middle and most of the end. The feeling of the beginning and at the very end weren’t compatible to me. Too bad.

It was a great idea but the character development fell short me. It also felt inappropriately lengthy in some areas and should have been expanded in others.
