Historia
What does the face of power look like? Who gets commemorated in art and why? And how do we react to statues of politicians we deplore? In this book - against a background of today’s “sculpture wars” - Mary Beard tells the story of how for more than two millennia portraits of the rich, powerful, and famous in the Western world have been shaped by the image of Roman emperors, especially the “Twelve Caesars”, from the ruthless Julius Caesar to the fly-torturing Domitian.

Complex but thorough
Revisado: 10-28-23
Mary beard, as usual, gives us a thorough examination of the Caesars. She searches details that are not always found in other examinations of Rome and the Roman.
This book is often challenging as it informs. She does draw us a picture, and we can see how complicated Roman society was at the time of the Caesars.

Secret knowledge
Revisado: 05-11-23
This book has been on repeat with me over several years. There is so much information, good information, even great information in this book to inform our practice.
Take the time sit down with Kottler, and learn from the master. He looks at practice from most every perspective.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Detailed report
Revisado: 01-22-23
The author is clearly a trauma survivor.
How anyone could thrive in the midst of so much gossip is the question. What kind of lives? how are children raised in the midst of the visible moods of those around them?
Hopefully, they are all in therapy. Clearly not suited for the 21st century.

Historia
Even having hundreds of closed cases to his credit can't keep LAPD police lieutenant Milo Sturgis from agonizing over the crimes that don't get solved - and the victims who go without justice. Victims like Katherine Hennepin, a young woman strangled and stabbed in her home. A single suspect with a solid alibi leads to a dead end - one even Alex Delaware's expert insight can't explain. The only thing to do is move on to the next murder case - because there's always a next one.

Historia
The Latecomer follows the story of the wealthy, New York City-based Oppenheimer family, from the first meeting of parents Salo and Johanna, under tragic circumstances, to their triplets born during the early days of IVF. As children, the three siblings—Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally—feel no strong familial bond and cannot wait to go their separate ways, even as their father becomes more distanced and their mother more desperate. When the triplets leave for college, Johanna, faced with being truly alone, makes the decision to have a fourth child.

Historia
During André Leon Talley’s first magazine job, alongside Andy Warhol at Interview, a fateful meeting with Karl Lagerfeld began a decades-long friendship with the enigmatic, often caustic designer. Propelled into the upper echelons by his knowledge and adoration of fashion, André moved to Paris as bureau chief of John Fairchild’s Women’s Wear Daily, befriending fashion's most important designers (Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta). But as André made friends, he also made enemies.

Shallow and self aggrandizing
Revisado: 07-03-20
Fashion is a world unto itself. I don’t pretend to understand. When I wonder where bitchyness was born, the book offers the best clues.
Mr Talley has reasons to be proud. I can’t help wondering what he would have accomplished swimming in a deeper pool.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Held my attention from start to finish
Revisado: 12-23-19
This is the first book by this author. He does a great job of creating a believable cast of characters. His focus is amazing as he keeps the focus on the speaker and his observations of his wife and her lover.
Amazing!
