I was expecting the dark twist... but then it just kept twisting. Great commentary on boundaries and the implicit biases of women being "softer" or "nicer" than men.

I don't usually cry

I don't cry. I think I am broken in a way. but this book tore at me so hard I feel sick. I ugly cried. Luke has long been my favorite voice actor. And the story he shares is so real abd raw. Was there trigger warning? it needed some. Rest well, Fenn. And thank you for sharing such a heart breaking story wrapped, somehow, in hope.

healing fantasy

aim not an emotional person who cries at every book. I can name only three books that ever made my cry. This is one of them. It is so haunting, yet healing at the same time. Nourishing. and heart breaking. I've been there. I've felt like that. and I needed a friendly dragon and guardian Phoenix.

ps. If you get annoyed with Kyla throughout this story... yeah depression really is that annoying.

everything about this is great. amazing good time. Buke it's Luke Daniels who really makes this. I can't imagine trying to read this in print. my internal monolog is also now Scottish for a bit.

super fun story!

This is a super fun story and I am so happy to have given this a listen. It reminds me of Assistant to the Villain sans all the pesky romance, and some of The Book of Night. It's witty, and clever, and refreshing, and not a place I expected to find a conversation about the ends justifying the means.

gave me anxiety attack... twice

I've tried this 2 nights in a row. At first it's fine, lulls my brain into a peaceful drift... the aggressively picks up pace, adds a harsh vibration sound, and seems to get louder. Leaving me with increasing anxiety until I turn it off.

Like Stormligh Archives meets Steelheart

The balance between simple yet visual prose, world building, and plot structure reminds me of Brandon Sanderson. Refreshing. And the audio proformance is on point.

very fun political intrigue fantasy

I enjoyed the characters and the layers of politics that Collete is trying to navigate. She's not incompetent at it either. She has a lot to battle, namely agism and sexism. The banter is witty, and the tongues are sharp.

The story was a lot of fun! The characters are varried, fully fleshed out, and so much fun. I wasn't sure about Paige and her sister at the beginning, I'm here for the space druid! But everyone quickly grew on me. And Emerald? with that ship? ROFL Amy did such a fantastic job bringing this to life. I pretty much exclusively listen to audiobooks so, please take my praise of the profomance with the gravity that deserves. They all get a standing ovation from me.

Except for making the kitten sad... you know what you did.
