Historia
A skeleton crew of desperate men looks to capitalize on a handsome reward offered by an eerie outsider. But when they brave the harsh winter waters to transport an ominous crate, their food supply mysteriously spoils, forcing them to stray off course. After several weeks of dead winds, absent sunlight, and diminishing rations the crew begins to question their faith and each other. As past lives of the crew are put on the chopping block, blood begins to spill. Has starvation driven them to delirium? Have they fallen out of the Lord's good graces?

Great narration. Good story
Revisado: 03-08-25
I liked this overall but I don't think it made as much sense as it should have. A group of sailors are hired to haul something but things go wrong. The timeline doesn't make sense to me and that's my hangup. It reads like everything happens in a few days but I think it's about a month or more.
Good overall.

Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.

Amazing first foray into the dark world of Frendo
Revisado: 08-22-24
This clown doesn't like parties. So when the local kids throw a massive party at his old factory and adjacent cornfield, things get messy.
This first book is a fantastic introduction to the world that Adam Cesare has created for us to explore.
The narrator is perfect. Her tone is great. Her voices fit the characters. Just absolutely perfect

Historia
Quinn has just survived yet another bloody run-in with the murderous clown Frendo, but somehow still she knows this won’t be the last. Tired of being hunted and seeing innocent people hurt, Quinn believes the only way to beat the horror is to take justice into her own hands—and stop the Frendo followers herself. Little does she know that this path will take her across cornfields and state lines, to where she will have to face the most dangerous and bloody menace yet: True believers.

Revisado: 08-22-24
We've seen our heroine battle in a cornfield, a college, and now, everywhere. Frendo's followers are gathering. But why? And where?
As usual, this reads like a movie. Action, adventure, guts. It's bloody fun.
Narrator is perfect. Her voices are spot on.

Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

WOW. Brilliant.
Revisado: 06-26-24
I love horror. It's something I've been into since I was young. When I saw a few authors online discussing how excited they were for this book, I immediately added to my preorder list. I was not disappointed.
This book is so unique. It's so REAL. It's insane. I literally had to pause a few times and go for a walk because the suspense was too much.
Story: Bela and her parents, Mommy and Daddo "dad-oh" seem to have an ok life. But Other Mommy lives in Bela's closet and every day asks her if she can go inside her heart. Every day, Bela says no. Other Mommy starts to get angry and terrorize the family. All Bela has to do to make it better is say yes.
This story is told from Bela's point of view. Which means we don't fully understand everything. Other Mommy talks about 'reincarnation' but to Bela, it's 'carnation'. The narrator is absolutely fantastic. I had to look her up and it turns out she is actually a kid. Perfect choice, in my opinion.
There's a lot of family drama going on and I think "Other Mommy" may be a manifestation of the family issues, but then other people see Other Mommy and I thought maybe it is a supernatural story with family drama mixed in. I honestly don't really know. I just know it was AMAZING.
If you're interested in a story told from a child's point of view, no bloody gore, and insane tension, pick this one up.

Historia
In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick. The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

Very interesting take
Revisado: 06-20-24
This book is told as if it were a documentary. We cut between the original filming of Horror Movie, the script reading, and the remake. The script reading parts are great. We hear them stumble on their words, stop and start when they feel it wasn't good enough, the pages turn as they read the scenes. It was very immersive.
The story focuses on the thin kid. He's the sole surviving member of the original cast and crew of Horror Movie, a film from the 90s that was never released in full, but scenes were posted on YouTube.
Horror Movie the film explores what teenagers might do to another kid that they, for some reason, detest. It then shifts to the thin kid, the kid they hate, and his experiences as their captive. Their pet. Their thing.
The book explores what this acting may turn someone into while also heavily relying on the retelling of the entire story from the perspective of the thin kid. He's an adult now but we know very little about him. It's not a scary book, but it is rather unsettling to hear about how he gets into character, and how everything plays out.
It's a great read

Historia
Regent Academy has a long and storied history in Winslow, Vermont, as does the forest that surrounds it. The school is known for molding teens into leaders, but its history is far more nefarious. Seventeen-year-old Douglas Jones wants nothing to do with Regent's king-making; he’s just trying to survive. But then a student is murdered and, for some reason, by the next day no one remembers him having ever existed, except for Douglas and the groundskeeper's son, Everett Everley.

Atmosphere and School Secrets
Revisado: 06-14-24
I really liked the world building in this book. It takes place at a school for rich kids and our main character is there on a scholarship. His mom is the school nurse and one day, he's visiting with her and someone comes in completely torn to shreds. The next day, he asks if the kid made it, if he's ok, but nobody remembers him. We investigate along with our protagonist as he navigates a curse placed on members of the school, a budding romance with a classmate, new magical abilities, and an unreliable mind that may or may not be blocking out memories of a fire he set, or didn't set, that killed 12 people.
Overall it was good. I had some issues keeping track of the magic stuff but that was more on me doing other things while listening. I did dock a star because I wanted a bit more...substance? I'm not sure how to word it but I wanted more character interactions. More building of these people. Worth the credit for me.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Some great. Some ok
Revisado: 05-23-24
I'm fairly new to Stephen King and I was excited for this collection. As with most collections, there's good and just OK.
The stories I remember are below.
Two Talented Bastids - Two friends from the same town suddenly get famous for different reasons. One, an artist. The other, a writer. But what sparked their success? And why do they refuse to talk about it?
Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream - My favorite story. A man dreams of a body behind a gas station. It was so vivid, he can't believe it so he goes to the station to prove to himself that it wasn't real. It was real. And now two detectives are on the case. One obsessed with his guilt, the other focused on facts.
On Slide Inn Road - Great tense story about a family on a lonely stretch of road who come across two men.
Red Screen - Great short about a man who killed his girlfriend and the detective who interrogates him.
The Turbulence Expert - Loved this one! We follow a man who flies often to observe turbulence. It's great.
Rattlesnakes - I was not a fan. It was decent, but it was LONG. It felt like it could have ended a few times and didn't.
The Answer Man - Another favorite. A man who appears on the side of the road answers any questions you can ask within a set amount of time. Will you ask the right questions?

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how the characters felt real, the situations made sense, and the zombies felt like a threat.
There were a few parts where I thought "that wasn't needed" but overall, it was a great listen.

Historia
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct and the half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind, but the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on Earth....

Great story. Sometimes slow
Revisado: 03-03-24
This book was great! The story is of a boy trying to get help for his home and the journey / people he meets along the way.
The story is strong. Narrator is fantastic. BUT some parts were so slow, I skipped ahead until the conversation was over. It was only twice that I did that but my goodness, cut it back a little bit.
Other than that, amazing. Picked up the next 2 and am excited to start them.

Another hit. Great addition to the story
Revisado: 02-18-24
This picks up 15 years after the first book. I am giving it 5 stars because I really liked it but I do have a few issues with the story.
First, the "friendly" AI is literally a deus ex machina. Can't get inside a heavily guarded compound? Oh, the AI can get you in. And do all the hard work for you. And do everything else.
Like, the general consensus is that the AI destroyed the world. Why are you trusting it? Makes no sense to me.
Other than that, it's a decent story and I'm excited to read the next one.
